Please I am currently locked out of my Azure Account due to MFA

I am unable to log into portal.azure.com due to MFA.

I have MFA for my primary email registered on my Microsoft Authentication App, however I don't get login confirmation notification on the app for Azure Portal, only for other platforms like Microsoft365 or this Tech Community Discussion Forum that I was able to signup/login via MFA.

Please can anyone help fix this, as this is urgent priority and I have a deadline to meet this morning.

Thanks.

Also, I can't raise a support Ticket on Azure due to this MFA issue.

If you're locked out of your Azure account due to MFA and not receiving the prompt, here’s what you can do:

    1. Try "Sign in another way" on the login screen — use a backup method like SMS or code if set up.
    2. Open the Authenticator app manually — sometimes notifications don’t appear, but the approval request is inside the app.
    3. Check device settings — make sure your phone has internet, notifications are enabled for the Authenticator app, and time is correct.
    4. Use a different browser or incognito window — cached sessions can block the prompt.
    5. If you're the only admin, go to Microsoft support and request an MFA reset with proof of ownership.
    6. If there's another global admin, ask them to reset your MFA via Azure AD → Users → select your account → Authentication methods.

This is a known issue and can only be resolved through backup access or Microsoft support if no alternatives are available.

  • Dear AtaimoEdem use below steps to sort it out;

Step 1: Change the Method During the Login Prompt

This is the quickest fix. When you are signing in to the Azure Portal and it asks for verification:

    1. On the screen that says "Approval required," you should see a message like "We're waiting for your response on your Microsoft Authenticator app."
    2. Look for and click the link that says "Sign in another way" or "I can't use my Authenticator app right now."
    3. You will be presented with a list of your other registered MFA methods.
    4. Choose "App notification" or "Microsoft Authenticator - notification" from the list.
    5. This should immediately trigger the notification to your app.

This often solves the immediate problem and can "re-teach" the system your preference.

Step 2: Update Your Default Sign-in Method in Your Security Info

This is the permanent solution to ensure the app notification is the primary method used going forward.

    1. Go to your Microsoft Security Info page: Navigate to https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo. You will need to sign in. If it asks for MFA, use one of the other methods (like a text code) to get in.
    2. Find your Authenticator method: Look for an entry called "Authenticator app" or "Microsoft Authenticator."
    3. Set it as the default:
      • Click on "Change" next to that method.
      • Follow the prompts to re-confirm your identity.
      • Crucially, during this process, ensure you select "Receive notifications for verification" as the preferred option for the app.
      • Once done, there should be an option to "Set as default". Make sure this is enabled for the Authenticator app entry.

Step 3: Check the Authenticator App Configuration

    1. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
    2. Tap on your work or school account.
    3. Ensure it is configured for "Notifications" and not just "Time-based one-time passcodes." It should say "Push notifications enabled" or something similar.

If you're locked out of Azure due to MFA, try using the 6-digit code from the Microsoft Authenticator app instead of waiting for a push notification. If that doesn't work, click “Sign in another way” to use a backup method. If you're using a work or school account, contact your Azure admin to reset your MFA settings. If it's a personal account, use the account recovery process.
