Dear AtaimoEdem use below steps to sort it out;
Step 1: Change the Method During the Login Prompt
This is the quickest fix. When you are signing in to the Azure Portal and it asks for verification:
- On the screen that says "Approval required," you should see a message like "We're waiting for your response on your Microsoft Authenticator app."
- Look for and click the link that says "Sign in another way" or "I can't use my Authenticator app right now."
- You will be presented with a list of your other registered MFA methods.
- Choose "App notification" or "Microsoft Authenticator - notification" from the list.
- This should immediately trigger the notification to your app.
This often solves the immediate problem and can "re-teach" the system your preference.
Step 2: Update Your Default Sign-in Method in Your Security Info
This is the permanent solution to ensure the app notification is the primary method used going forward.
- Go to your Microsoft Security Info page: Navigate to https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo. You will need to sign in. If it asks for MFA, use one of the other methods (like a text code) to get in.
- Find your Authenticator method: Look for an entry called "Authenticator app" or "Microsoft Authenticator."
- Set it as the default:
- Click on "Change" next to that method.
- Follow the prompts to re-confirm your identity.
- Crucially, during this process, ensure you select "Receive notifications for verification" as the preferred option for the app.
- Once done, there should be an option to "Set as default". Make sure this is enabled for the Authenticator app entry.
Step 3: Check the Authenticator App Configuration
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
- Tap on your work or school account.
- Ensure it is configured for "Notifications" and not just "Time-based one-time passcodes." It should say "Push notifications enabled" or something similar.
