Business Central Device Licensing - Service Management
I posted this in the CSP area but realized this is where it should have been. Reposting.
Suggestion...there really needs to be a category for licensing questions...and ideally a subcategory for Dynamics products...both cloud and on-prem. I'm posting this under the CSP category because I couldn't find a more suitable one.
As a side note, understanding and figuring out licensing for various scenarios on the Business Central side is one of the most frustrating things we have to do. Microsoft really needs to form a dedicated licensing team that understands licensing thoroughly across all products to provide clear answers on these scenarios.
We have a prospect for a new Business Central implementation that has a large number of field technicians. Our plan was to use Anveo's mobile app for field service which we've implemented previously on NAV. I reached out to Anveo to confirm pricing and they informed us that EVERY FIELD TECHNICIAN WILL NEED A FULL PREMIUM USER LICENSE. This is insane! We are priced out of this deal based on licensing. I can accept that a Team Member license is not sufficient here, but the fact that we can't use device licenses boggles my mind. We are priced out of competing in this space.
I'm not even sure what I'm looking for here...I suppose confirmation that a full license is in fact required here as a first step. Microsoft seriously needs to review licensing rules for scenarios like this ASAP to reposition things to compete in markets such as this one. Our customer absolutely cannot afford a tier one ERP system like F&O...and this licensing policy will have us priced way higher than our competition in the tier two space. Very frustrating.

The MPC community is well organized by being divided into categories where you can post questions based on your product. For the CSP program, you can post under the CSP Cloud Services for Partners community.
For Business Applications/BizApps which are now purchased under the New Commerce Experience/NCE, you would post under NCE. For Business Applications, Windows, Azure, and Power Platform, go ahead and use the Business Applications community. Hope this helps
To help you get acclimated to this new MPC format, here is a snapshot of the path to find each community. I suggest bookmarking this page so that you can easily refer to it when posting.

I'm sorry to hear that you're frustrated. Hopefully my responses in this reply will alleviate your frustration(s). Partners can log into Partner Center to find all of the resources needed, so this would serve as somewhat of a "one stop shop" for Partners. There are many, many Microsoft Learn Doc pages where you can find by searching a subject and selecting "documentation" or "Learn" to get details on your specific product or service. For example, I've provided a link to one of our Microsoft Learn Doc's below, title "Resources for Help + Support".
In addition to Partner Center, you can request assistance/clarification, etc. here on the MPC forum using one of the applicable forums in my snapshot above.

From the information that you've provided, I agree that a full license is required. It sounds like you'd benefit from 1:1 solution assistance, and unless you have an AM (account manager) or sales rep., you might benefit from partner support.

Partners can log into Partner Center and find a wealth of information, including licensing guides such as the D365 LG and BC OnPrem LG, etc.

Not trying to resurrect a week old thread here since LicensingConcierge1 did a good job of laying out the specifics but I just stopped by to float the idea of a bespoke solution that wouldn't have such licensing requirements.
As mentioned, device licenses have very specific scenarios in mind. Team Members also get some rights as well.
I'd have to believe that there's a way to get done what the client needs to get done without a premium license *and* without multiplexing but it sounds like you're just paying the tax for wanting it all done out of the box. For what it's worth, I've worked a BC project with another large 3rd party Field Service company, and it also required users to have full licenses.
Thanks Blake....I just saw your reply now. Which 3rd party solution did you work with? I'm familiar with Anveo, FieldBoss and ExpandIt, but I only have hands-on experience with Anveo. Also, we are exploring the option of building our own IP that would operate without using Service Management, so that Essentials licenses would be feasible.
