We have a client who has lost their access information to get into their Azure global admin. This is a non-profit institution that moved the ownership of their Azure account to another entity years ago now can't get in to the global admin for their entire Azure setup. Microsoft requires the global admin login to create a support ticket and in this case, how are they supposed to open up a case when they can't login. The customer is furious and now disputing the CC charges so we open an Azure support ticket 10 days ago for ourselves and since it's not a Critical issue, have gotten no response. Hello, We recently migrated two production Azure virtual machines away from the retiring Bv1 family. Initially, the VMs were running as: Standard_B2ms Standard_B4ms Our goal was to move them to a newer supported VM family. Environment Region: France Central Managed OS disks (one Standard SSD, one Standard HDD/Standard LRS) SCSI disk controller Windows Server virtual machines What we observed After stopping and deallocating the VM, we queried the available resize targets using PowerShell: Get-AzVMSize ` -ResourceGroupName "<ResourceGroup>" ` -VMName "<VMName>" For one VM, PowerShell returned, among others: Standard_D2ads_v5 Standard_D2ds_v5 Standard_D2d_v5 Standard_D2as_v4 Standard_D2ds_v4 For the other VM, it returned: Standard_D4ads_v5 Standard_D4ds_v5 Standard_D4d_v5 Standard_D4as_v4 However, when opening VM → Size in the Azure Portal, the v5 sizes were not available. Only the following sizes appeared: Standard_D2as_v4 Standard_D4as_v4 As a precaution, we resized both VMs using the sizes proposed by the Azure Portal: Standard_B2ms → Standard_D2as_v4 Standard_B4ms → Standard_D4as_v4 The migration completed successfully and both VMs are running correctly. Question Can someone explain why there is a difference between: the sizes returned by Get-AzVMSize, and the sizes displayed by the Azure Portal? More specifically: Does Get-AzVMSize return VM sizes that are not actually valid resize targets? Does the Azure Portal apply additional compatibility or capacity checks that PowerShell does not? Is this related to: regional capacity, VM generation, disk controller, managed disk type, host cluster, or another compatibility requirement? Would you recommend staying on Das_v4, or should we plan another migration to Dads_v5 if possible? I am trying to understand the reason behind the different behavior rather than forcing the resize through PowerShell. I have been informed some are upgradeable from Validated Solution directly to Premier Nodes but this requires a redeployment of the nodes. How can I find my running Validated Nodes, when not listed (upgraded) in Premier Solutions or Integrated Systems? There is a selector in the Azure Local Solutions overview, call qualification generation. Wait, is that a kind of upselling? Speaking about the hardware for Azure Local, in my understanding this consolidation from a 3-tier model to a 2-tier model was long overdue and in my personal opinion I welcome it based on the technical changes and requirements Azure Local 23H2 and 24H2 implied. I wouldn't describe it as upselling and here is a pointer why: Some time ago, most Integrated Systems (Nodes) have been upgraded to Premier Solutions at no additional cost to partners and customers by Dell Technologies. While Dell took the lead, many OEMs followed suit. This also means that all fully supported deployed Azure Local nodes consistently support Quick Reboot, skipping lenghty BIOS POST time, when no UEFI firmware is pending for installation. Thankfully though, the inital Azure Local 23H2 approach by Dell, which involved pairing Premier Nodes with a mandantory layer of OEM provided software, has been dismissed. This approach required customers accepting the benefits of Premier Solutions while getting charged , storage capacity, CPU and RAM in return for a OEM specific management software and other OEM provided benefits. Vae victis, early adopters. While these remain supported, this is no longer the case for Premier Solutions of neither OEM offering these. The benefits are huge, beneficial and practical for everyday operation, troubleshooting and support. Why the change? I'm using DevOps REST API via OAuth 2.0 to populate the fields of work item types. For "identity" fields, such as "System.AssignedTo", I'm having a hard time trying to figure out the best API that allows to retrieve a searchable list of users that mirrors what users see on DevOps website. From the browser inspector I saw the website calls this API, which is not documented: [POST] https://dev.azure.com/MY_ORGANIZATION/_apis/IdentityPicker/Identities as also noted on another discussion. But when I call this API (with the very same request body) from my local server I get a 401 response status code, and HTML content instead of the anticipated JSON. In Microsoft Entra Admin Center, I made sure to include "vso.identity" API permission for my app registration. What am I missing here? If I cannot use this API, what's the best alternative? I saw the https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/azure/devops/ims/identities/read-identities?view=azure-devops-rest-7.0&tabs=HTTP, but when I try to load it on the browser I always get zero results. I have already tried posting this to the general Microsoft Q&A forums and received no response. We are desperate to figure something out so if this is not the correct line of communication, please direct me to where I should go. My company is in a bit of a bind right now, and I am at my wit's end after almost a week of trying to get in contact with anyone who could help. We have multiple directories in Azure that belong to us, but they are all independent of each other. As such, some directories have multiple global admins (and thus are not an issue); others -- and quite frankly, the most important ones -- only have one global admin, and it was our DevOps person, who is no longer employed with us. We have no way of accessing his account, and thus no way of accessing a global admin account for these directories/tenants. Access to these directories is critical to our operations. We were informed last Friday by someone from the data protection team that they could not give us access to these tenants we pay thousands of dollars a month for because: Our former DevOps person registered all other users as guests/external users, and DPT "can't give external users admin permissions", and To reset the MFA of the current global admin account, the owner of the account (who no longer works for our company) would need to contact them and verify their identity What options do we have here? We have blobs full of user-uploaded files in these tenants. Starting over from scratch is a doomsday scenario we are trying everything we can to avoid. The issue consistently surfaces after updating to the FSLogix 3.26 branch (v3.26.126.19110). Root Cause Analysis (Failure Logs) Through deep log analysis, we identified a "driver poisoning" pattern unique to version 3.26: SMB/Kerberos Handshake Sensitivity: Under varying storage response times (latency spikes of ~350ms vs. the usual ~40ms), version 3.26 triggers an intermittent 1326 error (Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password). Driver Execution Flow Corruption: Unlike previous versions, after this initial network/authentication glitch, the 3.26 driver fails to release execution threads or volume handles properly. Catastrophic Failure (Error 267): The system attempts to access the SecuredProfileRegData path within the mounted VHDX, but the driver returns Event ID 26: "0x10b - The directory name is invalid".
