MS Project Master file won’t allow Duration/Deadline edits
I’m troubleshooting an unusual issue with a long-standing Microsoft Project Master/consolidated file containing multiple linked subprojects. After replacing one subproject with its latest monthly version, certain fields within that subproject cannot be edited from the Master file. Specifically, I cannot edit fields such as Duration or Deadline, while other fields, such as Text and Baseline fields, can still be edited normally from the Master. I’m sensing the theme has to do with fields that require calculation. More context: This issue arrived after we migrated MPP files from a cloud server to an on-prem server. Previous month’s Cloud server MPP file works fine in the Consolidated environment The master file creates the issue when I replace the cloud-based MPP with the current month on-prem version. Troubleshooting completed: The subproject works normally when opened directly. I created a brand-new blank MPP to use as the Master file and inserted the exact same subproject. Duration and Deadline are editable through the new Master. In the new consolidated file and repeated the normal download from on-prem/replacement process. Everything works correctly. The problem therefore appears to follow the existing Master MPP, rather than the subproject. F9/recalculation does not resolve the issue. The existing Master has been used for a long time and contains multiple inserted/linked subprojects and external relationships. Important constraint: I want to avoid rebuilding the Master or use a repair method that regenerates existing task UIDs. A higher-level consolidated schedule relies on the existing UIDs.
Calendar View in SharePoint Project Sites
In Project Server, a SharePoint site is created for each project. On that SharePoint site, there's a list of late tasks and upcoming tasks. There is also a Calendar view, but it looks like you have to manually add items to the calendar. How do I make it so that this Calendar will automatically be populated with Upcoming Tasks as shown on the SharePoint web page for each project?
How to download MS Project Plans along custom fileds including data
I have Project plans in project online. I am opening the plan in ms project, custom fields data is getting loaded. But when i try to save the file in local desktop, schedule data is saving but custom fields data is not coming only column names are coming. How to save the file along with task level custom fields with data in local desktop
MS PROJECT 2019 UPDATE and Purchasing Options
HI We are currently using Microsoft Project Professional 2019 desktop version, but we are facing challenges with its reporting limitations. Specifically, the software can only display a maximum of 75 rows in its reports. As our weekly reports often exceed this limit, we find ourselves spending considerable time on manual entries. For our monthly reports, we can manage the filtering process to avoid this limitation, but the weekly reports require a hierarchical structure to display task statuses, and unfortunately, there is no workaround for this constraint. While researching this issue, I found discussions indicating that the 2025 version of Microsoft Project can display up to 150 rows, which would help us address our challenges. I have a couple of questions: 1. Does the new version of Microsoft Project 2025 indeed support the display of up to 150 rows? 2. What is the best approach for upgrading: subscription or standalone? 3. Could you provide pricing information and tell us where we can obtain it? Thank you! We are using On-Premises Project Server, and in all views (Project, Project Center, Resources, etc.), the Column Headers are larger than normal, so that the bar in the Gantt Chart does not align with the project/task/resource associated with it. The browser we are using is Edge but I switched to Chrome and had the same issue. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?
Project Remaining Duration as of Status Date
In a Project schedule, The % Complete entered during an update doesn't seem to push the task Finish Date as it should. The task has a Start date of 6/9/25, Finish date of 9/23/25, duration of 14.95 weeks. The Status date is 9/12/25, Actual start 6/9/25 (on schedule) but progress is 2% Complete, Remaining Duration is 13.45 wks. When I click Update Project and reschedule uncomplete work to start as of Status Date (9/12/25) the Finish Date remains 9/23/25. Shouldn't the Finish Date push to approx. 12/12/2025 based on the % complete and remaining duration? There are a handful of tasks in this schedule with a similar issue, so I would like to find out what causes this, so we can make the task Finish Dates update as you would expect when updating % complete and Remaining Duration on tasks as of the status date. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. There are no date constraints on the task, and "Split In-Progress tasks" is selected in the Schedule Options. We are using a 4 day a week/10 hours a day calendar. We assign Generic Resources to tasks but this particular task is NOT resource loaded. This task is linked with both a predecessor and successor, and both the predecessor and successor are statused 100% complete. Could this be why Project isn't updating the Finish Date for this task, since its successor is complete? We are using Project Server. What is the proper way to reflect LOE (Level Of Effort) tasks in MS Project? For example, adding a task showing the PM working 10% of his time on the project, for the duration of the project. If we simply give that task a duration equal to the project, then Project cannot determine the correct Critical Path of the project. In addition, if the project duration changes, the PM will have to manually change the duration of the PM task. If we try linking this task with SS and FF relationships, the duration remains 1 day unless we input the duration, in which case we still have to update the duration as the project progresses. I have tried creating a hammock LOE task by copying and pasting links to the first and last tasks, as described in TenSix Consulting articles https://tensix.com/creating-loe-tasks-in-microsoft-project/ and https://tensix.com/more-about-level-of-effort-tasks-in-microsoft-project/ . However, this does not work in my version of Project Professional. I am only able to link either the starting date or finish date, but not both. Does anyone here have experience with scheduling this type of LOE task in MS Project? We are using on premises Project Server. We want to schedule this type of PM oversight task to plan for the estimated hours of PM time over the span of the project, have the task duration update dynamically if the project duration changes, and be able to status this PM task during the project to reflect the "actual" and "remaining" hours for the task as the project progresses.
