Our biggest challenge with SharePoint is how to roll it out to End Users with no SharePoint Experience (many of these users are engineers/site based on slow(ish) internet connections. We have large (+100,000) document libraries with long paths. Sync has been a massive issue, the default behaviour has been to just use File explorer to access files, resulting in sync errors and accidental deletion of files. I am looking for advice on turning OFF sync (in the document library settings) I have concerns about doing this, as there are always times when it is easier to Sync, and this is essentially a global setting (set for all users) Has anyone had any real life use cases/experience of doing this. I cannot think of any alternatives.112Views1like9CommentsInvalidRequest Error for Attachments in Personal Microsoft Lists
Hello Community, I’m experiencing a persistent issue with Microsoft Lists (personal account, accessed via web on Windows 11 using Microsoft Edge). Problem: All attachments in my personal Lists return the following error when clicked: {"error":{"code":"invalidRequest","message":"Invalid request"}} This happens for both my oldest and recently uploaded attachments. This does NOT happen to NEW list items as of today and onwards I verified that attachments were successfully uploaded at the time, but now none are accessible. Age of my uploads stretch from 2023 to this time Environment: Windows 11 (fully updated) Microsoft Edge (latest version) Lists accessed via web (not the app) Personal Microsoft account (not work/school) No recent migration, rename, or permissions changes. Steps Tried: Renamed the list (removed special character “ø” from the name). Uploaded new attachments Checked that both my sub-items are inaccessible (attachment and personal attachment fields used separately from item to item. No double uploads) Checked OneDrive and Recycle Bin — no attachments visible. No access to “Site contents” since this is a personal account. Questions: Is this a known issue with personal Lists attachments? Are attachments stored in a hidden folder in OneDrive/SharePoint for personal accounts? If so, what is the usual path? Is there any way to recover these attachments or fix the invalidRequest error? Impact: I used Lists to manage and store receipts, and now all attachments appear broken. This is critical for my workflow. Any guidance or escalation would be greatly appreciated!12Views0likes0CommentsMy Content Type instances have duplicate Document IDs (dlcdocid).
Hi, I have a Documents library with Content Types enabled, and with the Document ID service enabled. However new documents do not have a unique ID, but all get assigned the same ID as the content type template. The setup I enabled Document ID service via the Site Collection Features: https://<domain>.sharepoint.com/sites/<sitename>/_layouts/15/ManageFeatures.aspx?Scope=Site I enabled and configured content types. I created a Word template in the SharePoint library, and used Insert > Quick Parts > Document Property to create form fields sync'd with the Library/content type columns (Description, Project, Status). I downloaded the Word template from the same library into my OneDrive sync'd location, and uploaded it to the site collection's Content Types https://<domain>.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/online/AdminHome.aspx?modern=true#/contentTypes and sync'd to the site content types. I created documents in the library using the "New" menu. Later I ask the user or reviewer to update the document frontsheet with the dlcdocid (Insert > Quick Parts > Document ID value, or Insert > Quick Parts > Field... > DocProperty > _dlc_DocId) as well as the SharePoint Version using the policy label method (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5146555/sharepoint-label-to-embed-version-in-word-doc-havi) via Insert > Quick Parts > Document Property > Label. The Problem In the Documents library, new Word files are being re-assigned the original dlcdocid of the template (say DOCUMENT-0123456789-5). Now the "unique" URL shows me a list of multiple files all with DOCUMENT-0123456789-5. This is a read-only field so I cannot edit or delete the IDs. I want to have a Content Type template, with the frontsheet/header/footer fields sync'd with the Library columns, but I also want each document to have a unique ID and version. Help requested Is there a way to fix the template to clear the template ID, and to avoid this issue on future templates? How should I replace the template? Is uploading Template copies to the Content Type bad? Should I instead point to the file URL? Does it matter where the Template file is stored? Are there any ways to reset the ID of the few existing documents with the duplicate value?95Views1like1CommentHow is the SharePoint Online file path length counted?
I'm struggling to figure out how to calculate the path length of a file in SharePoint. I understand that the maximum is 400 characters. However, I'm not sure what goes toward that number, or whether characters are encoded or decoded.Solved254Views0likes4CommentsIssue where SharePoint users see an old unsynchronised Word file
The issue is that users open a Word document from a shared library into the desktop app, only to find that: There's no Autosave feature enabled in the top-right. The document version label we add on the frontsheet shows a very old minor version. I believe also that the file is read-only, and the only option they see is to save a local copy and upload it back to the library; which is not good practice since it's an old version. They report that the issue is resolved after exiting OneDrive, and deleting a Local cache folder. Has anyone experienced this issue and know what to try?121Views1like4Comments- 96Views0likes1Comment
Documents uploading to Sharepoint althoughI didn't set it up
Yesterday I began receiving email updates telling me that the Word documents I was working on have been uploaded to Sharepoint. This happens every time I insert a comment into the file. This only began to happen yesterday. I have never used Sharepoint, and only learned about the "Share" option when I searched Help to find ways to turn it off. I didn't turn it on deliberately. So I googled for instructions on how to stop this, and none of the instructions I found matched what I saw when I tried to turn it off in either the document or FIle Explorer. I just went into Word and clicked Help to identify the version I'm using, but they removed "About Word" from the Help menu, so the version isn't where it belongs anymore. I don't know where they put it, and it might not matter anyway. It's probably the latest version, in fact, this might have happened with a recent upgrade, I don't know. If my documents upload to Sharepoint, they're private, right? I'm a writer and I don't want my stuff going out there without me controlling things. Where does Sharepoint keep my files? I no longer have access to OneDrive because I was shut out one day when when my internet carrier switched my signal to another city, and I clicked "No" when Microsoft asked me if I was the one signing in from that city. They immediately locked me out of everything. I can't even get codes by text anymore. I got Outlook and microsoft.com back by signing in with my thumbprint on my phone, but it didn't help me with OneDrive, and I couldn't get support, so I've been unable to access it for months. If Sharepoint is happening on OneDrive, I might be in trouble. How do I stop uploading files to Sharepoint, and stop these annoying emails whenever I add a comment to a file? Thanks!75Views0likes2CommentsShort Term Retention Label action - no enforcement even after 10 days
Need some suggestions on the following issue as it is blocking the UAT sign off process from client. Problem Statement: We have created a few short-term Retention labels for UAT purpose scoped to a specific SharePoint site. “3-day retention label” which will delete the file in 3 days from the label application date, “2-day retention label” which will trigger disposition review after 2 days of label application date. However, even after 7-10 days of label application, the retention action is still not enforced. We have validated that the retention labels are correctly applied and there is no blanket policy conflicting the retention action set by the labels. Based on our understanding, Retention enforcement in SharePoint Online / OneDrive is handled by background Microsoft jobs which do not run on a fixed schedule. Actual deletion/disposition may take up to 30 days after the trigger date. We were aiming to close the UAT by next week, hence grateful if you can share any input to help expedite the process. Can there be any other reason causing this problem which I might have overlooked. The same setup worked perfectly fine earlier in a different SharePoint site. Any input will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.56Views0likes1Comment
