I'm struggling to figure out how to calculate the path length of a file in SharePoint. I understand that the maximum is 400 characters. However, I'm not sure what goes toward that number, or whether characters are encoded or decoded.Solved60Views0likes3CommentsIssue where SharePoint users see an old unsynchronised Word file
The issue is that users open a Word document from a shared library into the desktop app, only to find that: There's no Autosave feature enabled in the top-right. The document version label we add on the frontsheet shows a very old minor version. I believe also that the file is read-only, and the only option they see is to save a local copy and upload it back to the library; which is not good practice since it's an old version. They report that the issue is resolved after exiting OneDrive, and deleting a Local cache folder. Has anyone experienced this issue and know what to try?30Views1like1Comment- 29Views0likes1Comment
Documents uploading to Sharepoint althoughI didn't set it up
Yesterday I began receiving email updates telling me that the Word documents I was working on have been uploaded to Sharepoint. This happens every time I insert a comment into the file. This only began to happen yesterday. I have never used Sharepoint, and only learned about the "Share" option when I searched Help to find ways to turn it off. I didn't turn it on deliberately. So I googled for instructions on how to stop this, and none of the instructions I found matched what I saw when I tried to turn it off in either the document or FIle Explorer. I just went into Word and clicked Help to identify the version I'm using, but they removed "About Word" from the Help menu, so the version isn't where it belongs anymore. I don't know where they put it, and it might not matter anyway. It's probably the latest version, in fact, this might have happened with a recent upgrade, I don't know. If my documents upload to Sharepoint, they're private, right? I'm a writer and I don't want my stuff going out there without me controlling things. Where does Sharepoint keep my files? I no longer have access to OneDrive because I was shut out one day when when my internet carrier switched my signal to another city, and I clicked "No" when Microsoft asked me if I was the one signing in from that city. They immediately locked me out of everything. I can't even get codes by text anymore. I got Outlook and microsoft.com back by signing in with my thumbprint on my phone, but it didn't help me with OneDrive, and I couldn't get support, so I've been unable to access it for months. If Sharepoint is happening on OneDrive, I might be in trouble. How do I stop uploading files to Sharepoint, and stop these annoying emails whenever I add a comment to a file? Thanks!62Views0likes2CommentsShort Term Retention Label action - no enforcement even after 10 days
Need some suggestions on the following issue as it is blocking the UAT sign off process from client. Problem Statement: We have created a few short-term Retention labels for UAT purpose scoped to a specific SharePoint site. “3-day retention label” which will delete the file in 3 days from the label application date, “2-day retention label” which will trigger disposition review after 2 days of label application date. However, even after 7-10 days of label application, the retention action is still not enforced. We have validated that the retention labels are correctly applied and there is no blanket policy conflicting the retention action set by the labels. Based on our understanding, Retention enforcement in SharePoint Online / OneDrive is handled by background Microsoft jobs which do not run on a fixed schedule. Actual deletion/disposition may take up to 30 days after the trigger date. We were aiming to close the UAT by next week, hence grateful if you can share any input to help expedite the process. Can there be any other reason causing this problem which I might have overlooked. The same setup worked perfectly fine earlier in a different SharePoint site. Any input will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.50Views0likes1CommentBox as an Alternative to SharePoint/OneDrive
We’ve been running into ongoing performance and sync issues with SharePoint/OneDrive, mainly due to the size of our project libraries and the number of users syncing across multiple devices. Just one of our document library alone has hundreds of thousands of files, and it’s starting to cause major slowdowns especially for remote staff. We’re looking to understand if Box might be a more stable or scalable alternative for managing large file structures. To be clear, I’m not looking to be contacted by sales reps or companies. I’m only interested in hearing from actual users who are currently using OneDrive/SharePoint or Box for file management and collaboration. Would like to hear how it’s working for your organization, what’s gone well, and what hasn’t.43Views0likes0CommentsAccessing Teams Private Channels Files in SharePoint
Is there an issue currently with accessing Teams Private Channel files in SharePoint? I have looked but cannot find anything. Recently our users that used to access Teams Private channel files within SharePoint (by going to the sharepoint site and Documents and then In Channels) have noticed that when they click a folder it doesn't take them into a file list, it just does nothing. If they then press F5 to refresh it will usually take them into the list of files. Accessing the files with Teams is fine still, only an issue if you use SharePoint. I've tried this on a few other sites within our Tennant and it happens on our other sites too.148Views1like2CommentsMicrosoft Syntex: Turning Your Documents Into Digital Intelligence
