New OneDrive Sync Tutorials Available for Windows and Mac
We’re making it easier for everyone to get going with OneDrive! Now new users of OneDrive that set up the OneDrive Sync Client will receive a one-time tutorial on uploading files to OneDrive, accessing their content via the Mobile Application, and sharing their files with others. With the sync client, you can choose which files and folders to sync to your computer. You can even add multiple work accounts to the OneDrive Sync Client and sync files or folders to your computer for each account, so you always have the files you need on the go!SharePoint Online with Forced Checkout and Synced Folders
I have enabled a setting in our SharePoint Online instance that forces the checkout of files in our Document Library. I want this setting to remain as-is for a multitude of reasons. (I believe it has solved some other issues we had in the past with collaboration and documentation of changes to shared files.) The difficulty I have is with effectively using this Document Library now. When the file is checked out and the folder is synced to my local machine shouldn't I have the ability to modify said file? However the file remains uneditable. Furthermore, shouldn't we be able to add files to the local synced location? I cannot save to this folder natively (using other software) or by dragging files into the folder. I don't want to prevent people from adding things! Alternative Workflow The only alternative I can see is doing everything via the web-interface. I have to check out the file, download it, edit it, reupload it via the web interface to the same location, make sure it prompts with the "A file with this name already exists" message (I have a colleague that swears it didn't give him this prompt for a PowerBI PBIX file) and then click "Replace". It is a lot of extra steps and really removes any effectiveness of having the Sync client at all. (It also means a completely different workflow for these files compared to other files in SharePoint document libraries because other libraries don't have this setting. It's more of the forced-different-workflow than anything that bugs me.) Am I missing something or is this a big limitation of checking in and out of a document library? Suggested Alternative by Coworkers The reality is people just end up suggesting, "Let's just turn off the requirement for checking things out" which is the opposite behavior of what I'm trying to accomplish here which is trusted and tracked collaboration on files with colleagues. Are there any other workflows here that I'm missing? Sync Client Version I know the OneDrive client has gone through multiple iterations, but I try to stay on top of having the latest versions of everything. OneDrive SYNC client not showing 'Shared folder'
The issue of having the 'shared folder turned into an internet shortcut' was solved for me a week ago. as both of the accounts are migrated on new OneDrive (V2) but I'm facing another issue even after migrated to the v2. The problem is, In Windows OneDrive SYNC client, from its settings/account/choose folder, the 'shared folder' is not showing over there. Therefore, I can't choose which folder/file to sync (selective sync that's called), and all the other unnecessary folders into that shared folder, which I don't need or require, are being synced and downloaded on daily basis, eating my bandwidth as well as storage space. I mailed this issue to MSFT but they didn't respond with anything conclusive, except asking to uninstall/reinstall/reset OneDrive, which I already did everything, so posting it here. has anyone else faced or experiecning this same issue? I have an issue with onedrive where I use the internet version or the application. When i download the files i want, it goes extremely slow (100-700Kb/s). After it has finished downloading all the data it says "Failed - Network error." After this happens, it crashes my internet connection to my modem and my modem has to reset the connection. When i use any other website or app to download a file there is absolutely no problem and my speed is normal (10-16Mb/s) with no "network error". I have tried other networks to download from onedrive and have the same exact problem. Super frustrating especially when you want to download files in Gb, wait all that time to have it fail.
Office icon missing in OneDrive app preferences
Hi! As you can see in onedrive app preferences, there's used to be an "Office" icon, which is now disappeared in my OneDrive app. How is it possible to get this settings option back? I've tried resetting onedrive, and I have the latest version as well. I want to turn file collaboration off. Thank you!
