Private Channels
24 TopicsUnable to delete a private channel
Hi I seem to be unable to delete a private channel after having created a private channel for testing. The channel has no content and only one additional user, that was added after I found that it could not be deleted. The other user is also owner and can't delete it either. The channel was created 1 week ago, so it should be possible by now?Solved58KViews1like31CommentsSharePoint site of private channel in Teams is not displayed SharePoint admin center
Hello, My company is in the process of SharePoint migration and Teams roll-out. In order to keep the number of Teams to the minimum we create private channels whenever possible. However I noticed that the SharePoint sites created as a result of these private channels are not listed in SharePoint admin center among active sites and therefore can't be set as a Hub sites e.g. or their activity can't be monitored. Does anyone know if there is any solution or work-around for this issues? ThanksSolved41KViews1like12CommentsMake private channel visible for all MS Team members
Dear all, I created a MS Teams which is public and created private channel teams. But the private channel teams are only visible for me so the have not hide status. If I go to the ms teams settings and select channels, I see that the channels are only visible for me. How can I change this and please don't say I had to select this due channel creation. It is annoying that some settings cannot be changed after creation channel, eg. change private status to public/standard. Thank you, Hakan15KViews1like6CommentsTeams Private Channels admin center add users
Hey everyone! We had something go wrong with one of our Teams in our tenant...the owners were removed then had to be re-added. However, I can not add the owner back to the private channels within the Teams admin site- it gives me an error message even though there is an option to add members. I am using a GA account and also tried making myself an owner of the team as well. Does anyone have a similar experience or a workaround? Thanks so much! I would like to grant access back to these private channels.15KViews0likes5CommentsMessage regarding Teams private channel being out of space
We have a Team site that is set up with the default 1 TB of storage. This site has at least one private channel. Today, the owners of that private channel received notification that their Team site was out of space. From the Admin console, I could see that it was only using 5% of the storage capacity, but when we look at the user's computer, we see a banner that notifies us that we need to free up space. We emptied the recycle bin (there were a few files in it, but no more than 15). Additionally, from the Teams client, the user (who again, is the owner of the private channel) saw a prompt to add space to the SharePoint site. After walking through both of those steps (emptying recycle bin and adding space to the site) the users were able to once again start modifying and saving the files in that channel. I know the private channels run under their own SharePoint sites. As an Admin, do we have a way to look at the storage for these channels? Is there any documentation on what this size quota is set to when a new private channel is created? I assume that your general channels will pull from the main Team site quota since the content all resides in the same SharePoint site. I was just surprised by this behavior and haven't been able to find documentation specifically on the private channel SharePoint site.13KViews1like7CommentsPossible bug with wikis in private channels
When adding a wiki to a private channel members of the channel can't see the wiki. Instead they get the following error message: "It looks like your sharepoint doesn't allow adding Wiki tabs. ...." If the link is opened in share point by the creator and shared then when other members go to that link they are told they don't have permission and can request it. Once requested and granted the wiki is viewable in teams. Anyone else had this?6.6KViews0likes4CommentsFiles Tab in Private Channels
I created our first Private Channel earlier this week. Today I get a call from one of the members of that Private Channel and they cannot access the Files tab. They can participate in Conversations, but when they access the Files tab, they see an access denied message. I checked the membership and they were listed as a member of the channel. I promoted them to an owner and they were able to access Files. I demoted them to member, and once again they received an access denied message on the Files tab. I checked the underlying SharePoint permissions and it appears that members of a private channel are not added to any of the Groups in the site collection permissions. Can anyone else duplicate this? I have a pending support request open with MS.6KViews4likes5CommentsNeed more than 30 channels for a Team, is this possible to make happen?
Now that we are all online, I would like to create a private channel for each school in our district for School Advisory Council (SAC), but we have 45 schools at the moment and 2 new schools under construction and Teams will only allow 30. Would it be possible to expand the number of private channels in Teams. It is an awesome tool, Love working with Teams, but I cannot use it the way I need to. Please advise.Solved4.9KViews0likes7CommentsBest way to delete orphaned private channel sites?
I was testing private channels in my business tenant, where I am the only member - along with 2 guest accounts. When I tried creating a private channel, it seemed to work - but when I tried to go to the Files tab I got a variety of errors. I've seen this problem mentioned before, so thought I'd wait it out over the holiday. I found that the actual SharePoint site wasn't fully set up - it didn't look the same as a private channel site in my work tenant. And each time I tried to go to the file tab in Teams, it actually created another site collection. I deleted the private channels through teams, then deleted the team itself through teams.. But all these private channel sites still exist - I've got 12 orphan site collections... What is the best way to get rid of these through Powershell? They don't show up anywhere in admin. Is the usual Remove-SPOSite / Remove-SPODeletedSite good enough? Is there any other object I need to delete?Solved4.7KViews0likes3Comments
