Changing the view of document from side-by-side page to only one side page of a document

I am having a problem in Microsoft Word where a document opens in a different mode which I am not able to change. Can someone help me to change the view of this document to how the standard word document looks like?

The document is being viewed in a side by side mode even if the type of view is Print Layout.

 Check the View tab to see if Multiple Pages is selected. If it is, you can change it to One Page.

If you are saying that the options for zoom are greyed out, click to select Vertical on the View tab. This will turn off Side to Side which has probably been selected (and note the difference between Side to Side and View Side by Side).
