Incomplete Options in File Explorer Right-Click New Menu

Copper Contributor

I recently encountered an issue where the option to create a new 'text' document disappeared from the right-click menu in a folder. I usually use this feature quite often, so it was frustrating to see it missing. Instead, I was presented with a list of Microsoft Office document options and a few others like a bitmap image.

After investigating further on another computer, I noticed that only a few extra entries were available, such as a text document, Photoshop Elements document, and Visio diagram. However, the crucial 'text document' option was missing.

Thankfully, I found a solution by right-clicking on an existing text document, selecting 'open with' and then choosing a different app like Notepad. By setting Notepad as the default app and then switching back to Notepad++, I was able to restore the 'text document (Notepad++)' option in the right-click menu. This workaround appears to be a common strategy to promote Microsoft options over non-Microsoft ones. Let's see if the issue persists.
