Wish: Possibility to rename Bluetooth devices

I have several Bluetooth devices of the same type -- one set at home and one set at office. In Windows, it's not easy to guess which one is which. It would be nice to let us rename (ie give a nickname) to them to make the distinction easier.

PS: I had sent this wish to Feedback Hub @ https://aka.ms/AAhwk3f but got no return or attention whatsoever!  So I post it here to get more attention.

It is possible to rename Bluetooth devices in Windows 10.

Here's how:

1. Open the Settings app and go to Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
2. Find the device you want to rename in the list of paired devices and click on it.
3. Click on the "Device name" field and enter the new name you want to give to the device.
4. Click on the "Rename" button to save the new name.

That's it! The Bluetooth device should now appear with its new name in the list of paired devices. You can repeat this process for each Bluetooth device that you want to rename.

Alternatively, you can also rename Bluetooth devices using the Control Panel:

1. Open the Control Panel and go to Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers.
2. Find the Bluetooth device you want to rename and right-click on it.
3. Select "Properties" from the context menu.
4. Click on the "General" tab and enter the new name you want to give to the device in the "Device name" field.
5. Click on the "OK" button to save the new name.

The Bluetooth device should now appear with its new name in the Devices and Printers window.

I don't see at all what you are talking about.  I was talking about Win 10.  Are you?

1. In the Devices > Bluetooth & other devices, this is what I have:

I clicked on the device (BT5.0 Mouse) as you suggested.  There is ONLY one button called "Remove device".  Right-click has no use.  Where did you see the "Device name" field?

2. In Control Panel > etc ..... > Properties dialog, this is what I get:

The "General" tab has no field to input whatsoever.

It seems that the steps I provided may not work for your specific device or version of Windows 10. Some Bluetooth devices may not have the option to be renamed through the Windows settings.
However, you may be able to rename your Bluetooth device through its manufacturer’s software or app. You can check the device’s documentation or the manufacturer’s website for more information on how to do this.

Yes, I started from Control Panel.  I could make a video but is it necessary?

But your answer is not consistent.  In your previous answer, you wrote "Properties > General".  Now you wrote "Properties > Bluetooth".  Which one?

With all due respect, how about you provide some screenshot or even better, a video showing us that you could indeed rename Bluetooth devices?  That would be 1000 times better than mere words.

Which version of Windows 10 are you using?  Could you give us a screenshot?

I don't think so.  I have some Bluetooth headsets worth 100 USD to 300 USD but none provides the possibility to rename it.  And I have seen tens of other Bluetooth devices in other computers and I have NEVER seen the possibility to rename them.

Did it with Windows 10 22H2. I activated Bluetooth on my cell phone and did the same as you and changed the name of the device. I have already mentioned that it is not possible on all devices. Some devices do not have a device manufacturer option. Generally, you have to rely on third-party software or utilities. These tools provide additional functionalities beyond the native capabilities of Windows.

Perfect! finally worked with the control center option!

Only thing of note - after changing the name in device manager > [select device] > properties > bluetooth, apply the name before disconnecting and reconnecting the device and it'll show with the new name. Got me a few times as it won't change until you do so.

Will make it a lot easier to keep track of which games controller i have connected. Cheers mate!
