Windows 10 won't read my SD card

I can read the SD cards (photos) by using an adapter and plugging that into a USB port.  Sliding the card into the read slot for SDs produces just info about the card on Removable Disk H, which is the letter designation for the card slot.  Auto Play is on and the indication there is "download images to Adobe Bridge 2021."  I've checked two cards from different cameras and get the same result.

I use Windows 10 64 bit version 21H1 on a Dell XPS 8700 with an i7 processor and 24gb of RAM.

Suggestions?
