Need Formula for P/L for sale of a stock
I have a Table of stocks that I buy & sell. I need a Formula that will subtract my 'Sell Price' from my 'Buy Price' showing me any P/L that occurred once it has been sold (I don't do multiple buys of a stock before finally selling it, however I may do so in the future). Example: I bought TSLA on APR 1st and on MAY 1st I decided that it wasn't for me, so I sold it. I did, however, buy a couple of other stocks within that time frame, so there will be any # of rows in between (this will also occur as I buy & sell stocks in the future). In the Table below it shows when I bought TSLA (Row #5) & sold it (Row #8). I want to show in column 'J' (on the corresponding row of the sale) the value of my P/L when it was sold. I hope that I worded this properly. My knowledge of Excel is on a 'Moderate' level and no Formula (Xlookup, Direct, Match, etc) that I've tried has worked. Thank you very much for any help that you may provide!! (BTW, Column 'A' is left blank intentionally.)

Forgive me for taking so long to reply, but Formulae such as this take me a while to understand (and, I must admit that I'm still confused with it). At first glance, this appeared not to be what I was looking for. After thinking on this for a while a 'Running Total by Group' would seem to fit regardless of the number of buys on a stock before it is sold. Though I still do find it rather hard to understand and follow the Formula posted by ArviLaanemets. I tried to use it, but without a more simpler explanation of it, I don't believe that I'll be able to use it. I thank you for being so kind as to use your valuable time to reply to my post. Have a Blessed Life! P.S. This brings up the question of how this Formula would work if, after selling a stock, I buy it again months later. Since I use the stock's Symbol and not a unique identifier would this Formula also take into account an earlier 'Buy - Sale' group when it shouldn't? Again, thank you!

I edited my post to give a (hopefully) better understanding of what I presently have vs what I need. You state to enter your Formula into COL 'K', nut I need the results in COL 'J', so that's where I placed it (Cells J3:J9). After entering your Formula the above pic shows your formula's results. Thank you for being so kind as to reply to my post even though it's not the results that I want/need. Have a Blessed Life and thank you, again. P,S, Perhaps I'll able to modify your Formula to get the results I need.

Thank you! I've decided to create a backup of this particular workbook and store it elsewhere and then delete the Named Ranges one by one until I discover any unwanted repercusions. But, thank you again!

OK, I Googled it and yes it can be removed (deleted). I guess a better question would be "If it has that '#REF' under 'Value', does that mean it's not being used and it is ok to remove (delete)it. Thank you, again!!

I'm not aware of any online tool that would accomplish this...I don't know any C++ programming...And, I've never heard of 'dotnet'. Thankk you!

Stock & Geographical Type still not shiwing up in Excel 365
During the snafu of Excel 365 this week, Stock Data Type has disappeared. Excel has placed that little green marker in the upper left of all cells relating to stocks and pertaining info. Has MS not completely fixed this problem or is this just on my device?

I'm having the same problem and steps 1 - 3 didn't help...How is step #4 accomplished? UPDATE: I hve signed out & in 5 times now ( plus restarted my laptop 3 times) with no success. I finally got to Crenendtial Manager and I have no direct mention of office in it. Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks to all.

UPDATE: I believe that I have the formulae that I need (it seems to work, so far). =AND(OR(C1=3,C1=6,C1=9,C1=12),C2=G5) (I changed the value of G5 (for testing purposes) and it works). Thanks again for the inspiration!

Thank you for responding. To answer your question(s), yes, G5 is a constant date (in this case the 8th of every 3rd month beginning with Mar. And, C1 & C2 are formatted that way for visual simplicity. I tried your formula and it didn't work (gave me 'FALSE' condition when C1 is clearly TRUE (I did change G5 to equal C2 for testing purposes)). Perhaps I haven't made my goal clear, I wish for G5 (8th) to be highlighted in Mar, Jun, Sep, & Dec, when those month(s) & date occur I need a 'TRUE' value, else a 'FALSE' value. I admit that I don't understand your use of 'EDATE' (I try to stick with the 'IF' function (as I barely understand it's use)). But, again, I thank you for your response, you are most kind. I have the TODAY() function in cell C1 set to show the numerical value of the MONTH (1 - 12) and the same for C2 set to show the numerical value of the DATE (1 - EOM (30 or 31)). I've been trying to work with the IF,AND,OR formula to use in CF where every 3rd month (Mar, Jun, Sep, & Dec) and the date (in this case, the 8th) of cell G5 occurs it will highlight G5. Am I even on the right track with the IF,AND,OR function? I've been working on this (off & on) for 5 days now and am getting nothing but headaches from it. Any & all advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thank you!!

UPDATE: After completely uninstalling EVERYTHING related to MS Office, again, and re-installing Office 365 and updating it....EVERYTHING IS WORKING!!!!!!! Thanks to all for youe help.

I guess that is always a possibility, but, personally, I don't see why that would matter. I uninstalled 2021 and subscribed to 365 with the same results. Perhaps it's something wrong on my laptop (that would make more sense since nobody else seems to be having this problem. I've removed everything from my laptop relating to Office (ALL versions) and will re-install 365 to see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, then it has to be something on MY end causing this problem)Thank you for your continuing interest. I'll update this reply in a while.

HansVogelaar My Office Pro Plus 2021 is acting like it has reverted to an earlier version of Office. The function 'STOCKHISTORY' isn't recognized, along with several other stock data functions. But, when I checke it's version, once again, I get get this : BTW...Is anyone else having this problem?....Or, is it just me?
