Re: Sending email as alias in office365?
It does seem to work for me in outlook and owa but for another user I tried it on they get a bounce back message which is odd because I would think the setting is organizational. It has been a couple months so maybe I should try it again to see if it somehow works now.2.2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
JWinSC I agree it does not work for me either when it is for sure enabled. The only way I can get it to work is by setting up a POP account with the alias and creating an app password since I have MFA enabled. Here is a walkthrough on my website. I am not very happy with the video (it was my first attempt) I made so I prefer the text walkthrough. https://www.fabozzi.net/send-from-an-alias-or-secondary-exchange-account-in-outlook/ Let me know if you have any questions.3.6KViews0likes10CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
1. This will work with BCC because it is searching the header. (just tested now) 2. You do need to select the account each time on reply which is annoying but I can't justify a license for 60 people on a feature we don't use very often. The paid route is a nice solution but in reality Microsoft should have this built in with their software.5.4KViews0likes5CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
Victor_Ivanidze Instructions for sending from a proxy address: https://www.fabozzi.net/send-from-an-alias-or-secondary-exchange-account-in-outlook/ I have not created instructions yet on the incoming messages however you just need to create a rule to categorize the incoming messages or move it to a folder when header contains your proxy address. example: Doing this method also lets you assign a default signature to each proxy address account added in Outlook.5.4KViews0likes8CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
ab1234260 Thanks for that info I was not aware that the web would translate it correctly. As for the desktop one slight work around is to create a rule that moves messages sent to a certain alias to a certain folder or you can add a category to it. Then when you are replying to that message you know to change the from address before sending the message. Not ideal at all but thought I would mention it as an option. All of this is pretty frustrating really but hopefully one day it will function properly.6.7KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
Shared mailbox is the preferred solution however I don't want to use that in my environment because I have 30-40 users with 3 to 4 aliases each so the shared mailbox count would rack up fast and managing that would not be fun. In most scenarios though I bet Shared Mailbox is the best solution.7.5KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
Traveler2045That is great news thanks for that! I was so excited I tried it right away and it did not work though 😞 I set SendFromAliasEnabled to True I then went to my Outlook and in the from box I selected other email addresses I then typed out mailto:anthony@pivotcustom.com (it saved it from my previous attempt) I then sent an email to an address NOT on the exchange server(gmail, hotmail, ect.) Sending DID work though so that was different because normally this would fail Above is my sent message to the external account Next here is my received message header: From shows mailto:anthony@americanrampcompany.comhowever the header.from shows as pivotcustom.com (I searched the header info and that is the only instance of pivotcustom.com in the message header) If I click reply on the message and view the To address it is wrong So in conclusion sending works now however it does not translate on the other side still. Can anyone else test and confirm? maybe I am missing something. Thanks.7.5KViews0likes2CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
ab1234260I see what you are saying I will have to test that I don't use that feature often. I completely agree though this should have been native functionality in 2003 in my opinion however there must be something programmatically that makes it tricky implement or Microsoft is focused on other things and consider this a low priority.8.7KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
nickchristieIf you setup a POP account for the alias and email someone in your organization you are correct it will show the primary address however if you email someone outside your organization it will show correctly. Try a gmail or hotmail address to confirm and let me know. I did this for two account yesterday and emailed my personal address so I know it still works if setup per my instructions. https://www.fabozzi.net/send-from-an-alias-or-secondary-exchange-account-in-outlook/8.7KViews0likes6CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
Victor_IvanidzeIt is my understanding this is a 3rd party service that you would have to route your mail through and it is a paid service. I have created an AutoIT script that helps automate setting up sending from an Alias account. If anyone shows any interest I can look at tweaking it for public use. At the moment it is customized for company use. Here is a screenshot: After filling in the information when you click go AutoIT opens the mail config and enters the information based on what was entered. Also a mandatory signature gets created and there are steps along the way that still require manual intervention. Although if anyone with scripting/coding experience can lend a hand I think this would be a pretty neat tool until Microsoft natively implements the feature.4.5KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
FYI here for reference if I put To as the specified header name it works however when testing a reply email it does not match the rule but when creating a new email message it does. Here is a list of headers: https://www.iana.org/assignments/message-headers/message-headers.xhtml I tried In-Reply-To, Reply-To, and References with no luck. Regardless that is getting off topic but wanted to mention it in case someone else was wondering what to enter in the specified header field. Back on topic I like they are looking to add the feature in OWA by the end of this year https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=59437 https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-outlook-for-the-web-to-support-sending-email-as-alias/ All my users use the Outlook program but it is a start.7.5KViews0likes1CommentRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
ab1234260Something I just thought of is created a rule in exchange to tag the message saying it was sent to a certain account which would work for my scenario however maybe not for yours. The only issue I see is in my testing I am unsure of what to put for specify header name. The secondary alias DOES show up in the header so that is promising.3.6KViews0likes2CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
ab1234260I tested what you have said and that is interesting because it used to work when replying. I did not see Paul Murana's instructions but I bet they are similar to what I am using. From an outside email address if I email mailto:test@secondalias.com it comes into the exchange as the primary account so when you click reply it replies from the main account. Very annoying because I have been using this method for almost 10 years now and in the past when an outside entity emailed an alias it came in as that alias. Sounds like in your scenario a shared inbox would be best. I can't do that in my scenario unfortunately.3.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
Joseph LuoI have used my method on Mac successfully however my walk through is for windows. https://www.fabozzi.net/send-from-an-alias-or-secondary-exchange-account-in-outlook/ I have a mac laying around and will plan on making a walk through on Mac. The POP account settings will be the same however getting to the area to add that information is different. I know you open outlook and enter the account settings from the program menu somewhere. Add POP3 account and in my walk through you will enter the settings for the POP account. Cleanup steps will be different as well but google can probably help. I will let you know when I add the Mac walk through. Hope is works out.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Sending email as alias in office365?
6 or 7 posts above you can see a link to my website with detailed instructions on how to suppress that cosmetic error however you will need to close outlook at do it through the control panel method. When you do it in Outlook it won't let you continue because it wants an incoming server. You DON'T want an incoming server because you will get duplicates. I did not want to spam my website link over and over again on here so scroll up. I will PM you the link as well though.5.2KViews0likes0Comments
