SP133540 - Problem accessing SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business sites
This has really been a huge embarrassment and Microsoft should be paying out every single customer as this service is not at the 99.99% uptime as promised.
Drop Box, Google Docs, Other file sharing platforms that have this feature would never ever in 1000 years be down like this for such an extended period of time.
Office 365 is not ready for the enterprise and when critical access like this is shut down for external users due to someone at Microsoft screwing up code, well, I certainly have lost all respect for this service.
Looks like we need to switch services to a more reliable file sharing platform like drop box, and simply use office 365 perhaps for email and that's it.
Microsoft cant keep their services running and this is really scary and certainly a lesson that all Business critical processes, solutions , or applications should never be run in Office 365.
It should def. have been fixed by now but your blowing it a little out of proportion :p.

Any update on fix? We use SharePoint for external collaboration and no one like repeated prompt for accessing SharePoint.
- DeletedMay 16, 2018Current status: Due to the extended time this issue has been active, we're providing additional details regarding the root cause of impact and our plan to resolve the underlying problem. This event was triggered by an update related to Windows Challenge/Response (NTLM) authentication protocol handling, which was made to improve secure authentication behavior across Office 365 applications. However, the change had unintended impact to certain response types, resulting in mishandling of 401-type responses from SharePoint Online in external sharing scenarios. Due to the complexity of the code, and the risk involved when making changes related to authentication and security, we've taken a very careful approach to testing and validation cycles as we develop a fix. In the course of this work, we've identified potential issues with early versions of the code fix that would've resulted in much more severe impact to the service, and we were forced to delay or roll back the updated code. At this time, we've developed a new version of the code fix and we're confident that this will resolve the problem without impacting the service. We're deploying the update internally today and after we complete our internal testing and validation phase, we'll deploy the fix worldwide.

From a user experience perspective, the service (teams) is down for external users... The authentication prompt annoyance is nothing compared to not being able to collaborate with vendors, partners, customers, etc... with whom you had already established communication and collaboration processes.

I disagree,
The clients I service depend on anonymous file sharing as part of regular business. This service is completely down and I have to say that support at Microsoft is like a virus. No one knows anything over there and meanwhile my clients are dealing with hundreds of phone calls, thousands of support tickets and a huge waste of time dealing with questions, and explaining to users that the service is down and the anonymous links will not work.
Seriously, Microsoft should immediately fire and remove from the building anyone involved in this outage starting at the management level.
I am telling all my clients to use drop box and get rid of the Office 365 inadequate file sharing service.
