Site Creation off SharePoint Landing Page
Good Day
I wanted to ask a question related to the site creation link/menu off the SharePoint Online landing page (..../layouts/sharepoint,aspx). We had this setting disabled on our tenant with help of our SharePoint Admin team that has access to the SharePoint Admin Tenant Center. We recently noticed that the site creation option changed on its own. We discovered on the SharePoint landing page that the site creation link was again visible and on our SharePoint Admin center we noticed the option changed to show the site creation command. We suspect this may have been with the recent introduction of creating Modern Team Sites without Office 365 Groups which we recently confirmed.
Maybe we could be wrong but nothing really has changed on our side specially at the SharePoint Admin Center tenant level. If someone has experienced or heard anything related to this will be great in having your feedback. Thank you very much

Now thou, that setting lets users create comm sites when it's on regardless if they can create groups or not which makes sense since comm sites don't create groups. But now if you disable the option, you can still create sites from SharePoint home as an approved group creator. At least that's how I've experienced it, I had to go "Disable" that setting after this change went through to prevent comm sites from being created.- AnonymousHere is a link to the article about the changes.

I've slept since then, but I'm fairly certain the way the "Show site creation" option worked then vs. now changed where you could hide it fully and still get the button if you have group creation privileges.- Juan M BaenaIron Contributor
Thank you for the feedback, really appreciate it. It is interesting seeing the article that talks about the changes as I noticed a screenshot that shows new options under the site creation section in the SharePoint Admin center where you can specify the site templates (modern or classic) that would be available as a choice if site creation is enabled. We do not see that on our tenant yet.
