IT helpdesk site template - limit access to Tickets list

I'm looking at using the out of the box IT Help Desk template for a very simple ticketing solution. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/use-the-it-help-desk-sharepoint-site-template-808d0c01-1ea6-4962-8efc-f458d2102c77) I have the list set up with the required columns and changed the front page's 'Submit a new ticket' to open the list's new item form.
The 'Check the status of the ticket' button goes by default to open the list. I want that button to only show the user the tickets that they have created (can be done via the Advanced list settings) OR the tickets that have been created by service staff on their behalf. For example, a user may ring the help line with their issue or email, and service staff would in those cases be the creators of the list items, not the user.
I don't know how to address this to allow users to only see list items for their own requests, regardless of who creates them in the list.
