How can I generate word docs in Sharepoint online using a master template?

How can I generate word docs in Sharepoint online using a master templat, this template would control all subsequent generated documents, with controlling field features (i.e. clause is updated in master and this update would push to all other forms of the document). I tried this https://www.c-sharpcorner.com/article/generate-ms-word-document-consuming-sharepoint-list-data-from-...

However it's not functioning as expected? Does the community have any other suggestions? We would also look at automating some of the functions eventually as well. Thanks

The process worked for me.  What problems are you experiencing with it?  I have noticed that the metadata doesn't populate when opening the produced .docx in the web app.  However, when you open it on the desktop app, all of the fields populate from the metadata correctly.  @Laura_2021
