Folder Size Change

Our organization is migrating to a new tenant, and to be on the safe side, I downloaded the entire SharePoint to an external drive and uploaded it onto the new site. However, although all the files seem to be there, the folder sizes are significantly smaller in the new site than the original one. Is this normal?
