Default document types all changed

Hi

All my document libraries have changed the default behaviour of the "new" document button. Previously I was able to create new Word, Excel docs etc. but now all the options are "Folder", "Document" and "Link".

I have been into the advanced settings of the document library and turned off "Allow management of content types" and cleared the URL under "Template URL" but still no luck.

Obviously something has changed somewhere but don't know where since it seems to have populated across all sub-sites (at least the one's I've checked)

Any help on how to return the default behaviour of the "New" button in document libraries?

Thanks

  • Please check the site setting by navigating as below and check if you entered URL for existing document template. If so, please clear it and check.

site setting --> site content type--> click your default content type(document)-->advanced setting -->document template

Thanks for your reply. I have done this already and it has removed "document" as an option in the "New" menu on the libraries but still doesn't give the option to create new Word, Excel docs.

If I create a new document library the default options are there, it's just for exisiting libraries.

      Thanks

I think it's something that's been changed internally on our tenant, not a Microsoft change.
