Copper Contributor

I have a sharepoint list embedded in a modern page

How do I change the wording of "item" when I want to add a new item to the list

Follow these steps:

  1. Create a new content type in your SharePoint site - Based on Item as a Parent Content Type
  2. Add newly created content type to the list
  3. Remove SharePoint default Item content type from the list

Note

  1. If you are trying this for newly created SharePoint list (without any columns and live data), it should work for you without any additional steps
  2. If you already have columns and and live data in the list: Add existing list columns to the new content type after step #2 given above (before deleting default item content type from list)

Solution

@vffdd depends on some conditions. If this is a one-off list and you don't want to reuse the structure of the item (Content Type), then you can do the following:

  1. Go into the List Settings.
  2. Advanced Settings
  3. Allow management of Content Types? Yes
  4. Click Ok
  5. Go back to the List Settings
  6. Click on Item under Content Types
  7. Click on the Name and Description
  8. Change the Name from Item to whatever you want.
  9. Click OK

If this is not a one off list/content type then go with creating with a new content type as suggested in the previous post.
