Can SharePoint Default Settings be Changed at the Individual Level (Open in Desktop Ap)

Copper Contributor

Several coworkers and I have a Teams channel, but we typically access the documentation stored in the channel via the SharePoint site that Teams creates on the backend. Some in the group love using the web version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. but I STRONGLY prefer using the desktop apps. So, with that said, if I change the default on the SharePoint site (not in Teams), so files open in the desktop app by default, will this change impact all users or just myself? In other words, is there a way to change my personal default settings or does changing settings impact the SharePoint site at the group level?

This is set at the Library level and affects all users of that library. That said, if the default setting for the Library is to open files in the web, those who prefer to use desktop can sync the library and work from their desktop. That will automatically open files in their desktop applications.

Hope that helps!

@Kelly_Edinger Thank you for the response! How would one go about syncing the library so they can work from their desktop?
