MS Project: combine many resources into a team (because total available capacity should be taken)
Hello, I have a project in which development orders arise. These are assigned to development teams. There are xy developers in a team whose availability I would like to maintain individually via "resources". However, it should not matter for the calculation which developer actually gets the job - the entire team capacity should be taken into account when calculating end dates.. Do I have to work with a resource pool for this or can teams be formed. So my goal is to combine different capacities into one and use them in single processes. Thank you very much 🙂

You do not need a resource pool to do what you want. All you need to do is create team resources (i.e. Designers, Testers, etc.) and set that resource's Max Unit value equal to the number of members on the team. For example, if you have 5 people on the Designers team and each is a full time employee, you'd set the Max Unit value to 500%. You will be able to assign that resource to any single or multiple tasks and you won't get an overallocation unless the max unit value is exceeded.
Hope this helps.
John- TinaLutzCopper ContributorHi John, great, thanks. I would appreciate if you could help me out: how to create a team resource? And can I take care of absences from individuals or do I have to add all availabilities to one capa?
- John-projectSilver ContributorTinaLutz,
If you're using the desktop version of Project I can show you how but if you're using Project Online or Project for the Web, I'll have to defer to one of my colleagues.
However, one thing you lose with group resources is the ability to individually set up resource calendars for vacations, part time or other deviations from the standard calendar.
