In this issue I can only recommend or remind you of the usual troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check Outlook settings:
    • Open Outlook and go to "File" > "Options" > "Trust Center" > "Trust Center Settings."
    • In the Trust Center, go to the "Automatic Download" section.
    • Make sure the option "Don't download pictures automatically in HTML email messages or RSS items" is not selected. If it is selected, uncheck it and click "OK."
  2. Verify network and connectivity:
    • Ensure that the virtual desktop environment has proper network connectivity and can access the internet.
    • Check if other applications or websites can display and download images correctly within the virtual desktop.
  3. Disable add-ins:
    • Add-ins in Outlook can sometimes cause conflicts or issues. Try disabling any third-party add-ins and restart Outlook to see if the problem persists.
    • To disable add-ins, go to "File" > "Options" > "Add-Ins." Manage the add-ins by selecting "COM Add-ins" or "Disabled Items" from the drop-down menu.
  4. Clear Outlook cache:
    • Clearing the Outlook cache can resolve various display-related issues. Exit Outlook and navigate to the following folder:
      • For Outlook 2016 and later: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook
      • For Outlook 2013: %appdata%\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
    • Delete the contents of the folder (excluding the .ost or .pst files if present).
    • Restart Outlook and check if the images are displayed and downloadable.
  5. Update Outlook:
    • Ensure that you have the latest version of Outlook installed on your Azure Virtual Desktop. Check for any available updates and install them if necessary.

If you're experiencing issues with the display and download of images in Outlook on Azure Virtual Desktops, there could be a few potential causes for this problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check network connectivity: Ensure that your Azure Virtual Desktop environment has a stable network connection. If there are any network issues, it could affect the display and download of images in Outlook. Verify that you can access other websites and resources without any problems.

Check Outlook settings: Verify that the image download settings in Outlook are properly configured. In Outlook, go to "File" > "Options" > "Trust Center" > "Automatic Download" and ensure that the option "Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items" is not selected.

Check antivirus or security software: Sometimes, antivirus or security software installed on the Azure Virtual Desktop can interfere with image downloads. Temporarily disable any such software and check if the issue persists. If disabling the software resolves the problem, you may need to adjust the settings to allow image downloads.

Verify browser settings: Outlook uses Internet Explorer as the rendering engine for HTML content. Ensure that the security settings in Internet Explorer are not blocking the display and download of images. Check the "Internet Options" in the Control Panel or Internet Explorer settings and adjust the security settings if necessary.
