Can't log in to Outlook

I haven't used Outlook for some time but I have a client who needs me to use it.  I was told when I tried to use it that I had to update my Outlook 13 / Outlook 16 to the new version by updating my profile.  I followed the Microsoft step by step details but now I am getting a message saying I can't log in to Outlook and that the Exchange information service in the profile is missing some required information.  I see that this was a big problem when the upgrade was first brought in but it is marked as fixed ... not for me!  Any suggestions please?
