Adding gmail addresse in Outlook 2016

Hello,

I am trying to add my gmail address in my list of addresses used in Outlook 2016 but I get an error message :

"We were unable to create the Outlook Data File. Make sure the disk you are recording to is not full or write-protected and the file is not in use."

Translated from french : "Nous n'avons pas pu créer le fichier de données Outlook. Assurez-vous que le disque sur lequel vous effectuez l'enregistrement n'est pas saturé ou protégé en écriture et que le fichier n'est pas en cours d'utilisation."

How can I solve this problem ? I would prefer this gmail address to be included in the same PST file as my  other mail addresses but I wasn't asked which file should be used. My disk is not full either.

I just bought a new notebook (windows 11). I had no problem with the previous one (windows 10)

Thanks for your help

    Hi aixois13,

you can try the following steps:

    1. Completely close Outlook and ensure it is not running in the background.
    2. Open the Control Panel on your notebook.
    3. Navigate to "User Accounts" and then "Mail (Microsoft Outlook)".
    4. In the Mail Setup window, click on the "Data Files" button.
    5. Select the "Data Files" tab and check if there is an existing PST file associated with your Outlook profile. If not, create a new one by clicking on the "Add" button.
    6. Give or choose the location where you want to save the PST file and provide a name for it.
    7. Set the new created or existing PST file as the default data file for your email accounts by selecting it and clicking on the "Set as Default" button.
    8. Save the changes and exit the Mail Setup window.
    9. Open Outlook again and try adding your Gmail account once more.

      Thanks for your help.

      (5) Under "Data Files" there is my PST file named "Outlook_New.pst" which is used for my non gmail addresses but also 6 other ost files which were created when trying to add my gmail address. I didn't notice that

      C:\Users\jl-bo\AppData\Local Microsoft\Outlook\email address removed for privacy reasons.ost

      C:\Users\jl-bo\AppData\Local Microsoft\Outlook\email address removed for privacy reasons.ost (2)

      C:\Users\jl-bo\AppData\Local Microsoft\Outlook\email address removed for privacy reasons.ost (3)

      C:\Users\jl-bo\AppData\Local Microsoft\Outlook\email address removed for privacy reasons.ost (4)

      C:\Users\jl-bo\AppData\Local Microsoft\Outlook\email address removed for privacy reasons.ost (5)

      C:\Users\jl-bo\AppData\Local Microsoft\Outlook\email address removed for privacy reasons.ost (6)

My default PST file is C:\Users\jl-bo\AppData\Local Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook_New.pst and this is this pst file which I wanted to be associated to my gmail address.

      (5) Outlook_New.pst is already set as the default data file for my email accounts

What should I do then ? I cannot delete these 6 ost files from the list. An error message says they are associated to a mail account, but in fact no mail account is associated to them and it seems a new attempt will created an extra C:\Users\jl-bo\AppData\Local Microsoft\Outlook\email address removed for privacy reasons .ost(7) file

The gmail address already exists in the "mail" tab associated to Outlook_New.pst with my other mail addresses but cannot work. Should I delete it then delete the 6 OST files ? from the list or on my disk ?

      Thanks

I deleted the 6 OST files from my disk but they are recreated when I open again the settings "Data Files" in "Mail (Microsoft Outlook)". And under "Data Files", it's still impossible to delete them. They are associated to a mail account which doesn't exist!
