Cannot delete empty folders in OneDrive for Business

I have an end user who is trying to remove 2 empty folders from his ODB.  The folders, live within Pictures\Camera Roll, and is used by his company phone to sync photos taken to his ODB.  This has been turned off on the phone, but when trying to delete, a box appears reading " 1 item wasn't deleted.  If attempting to delete a non-empty folder, it is possible that it is on hold".

All SPO / ODB libraries are on retention, but he should still be able to delete items to the preservation hold library.  Have checked eDiscovery Premium in case my end user is part of a Case in EDP (not), reset the oneDrive Sync client, it's performed a complete sync ok, but still cannot remove these folders, anyone have any ideas?

  • I would check that the phone connection really has been disabled. If there is still an active Microsoft/OneDrive account then it may be locking those folders.

I've noticed that other Microsoft phone apps (e.g. Office) seem to have broad tentacles into the device (e.g. checking all downloaded PDFs) so there may be an unexpected hold via those.
