What is the best way to audit events that occur within the sharepoint site assoicated with an office 365 group?
https://protection.office.com/#/unifiedauditlog is the best place to search for the auditing events. But it's equivalent to finding a needle in the haystack.
You can use the following auditing tool to get the separate report on SharePoint related activities.

This tool provides more than 300 pre-built reports and it provides more filtering capabilities which will help you to create different views based on site-collection/site/group/etc.
