Teams Live Event with video played - Bandwidth

Copper Contributor

Hello,

I would like to know the min / recommended / best bandwidth per user for a live event where a video will be played from the organizer's computer to 100 users ( on their computer on the same site).

I already check some webiste but I can not find a definitive answer.

Best I found is : 250 kbs min / 2500 kbs recommended / 4000 kbs best  for screensharing in a meeting.

Few more questions:

- Does the video played change the necessary bandwith for the user vs a powerpoint shared for instance ?

-Does the bandwith necessary for the organiser ( that played the video) is different ?

Do you have any recommendation for that type of needs ?

Thanks for your answer .

Hi @FlorianArg,

here are the general answers to your questions:

  1. Bandwidth per user:
Your discovered bandwidth values (250 kbps minimum, 2500 kbps recommended, 4000 kbps best) are suitable for screen sharing in meetings. For high-quality video experiences, like Teams live events, a suggested bandwidth is around 10 Mbps.
Manage meeting policies for audio and video - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

  2. Video vs. PowerPoint: Sharing videos generally demands more bandwidth compared to PowerPoint presentations. PowerPoint Live in Microsoft Teams reportedly requires significantly less network bandwidth than traditional sharing.

  3. Organizer's bandwidth: If the organizer is streaming the video, their upload bandwidth should ideally be 1.5x the combined bit rate of all streamed programs.
