SharePoint & Teams Folder/Directory structure
How do I map to the Team folder with the subfolder in the mapped drive? I'd not have to map to each and every folder as their own drive. That would be 7 mappings just for Marketing Dept. Is there a way in Win7Pro to map to the Group's upper level drive? Or is every Channel it's own drive folder location?
And no, you can just sync the root of the library and you will get all the folders ( channels )

Screamingblues Does synching mean that every folder and file in the SPOL you are synching to is downloaded to your PC hard drive as well? If so, really don't want that as the # of files is large. I just want to periodically run a DOS or TREE command and pipe it to a text file to see the folder file structure for sharepoint sites to document what is in there. I was using the IE explorer method and mapping, but it seems this may disappear one day as being supported? i am not an admin, just a user.
Thanks
Gary

I agree. I like the power of Teams and SharePoint. Just wish as IT person, that I can make shortcuts to specific folders that are in our SharePoint (data archives/company resources) instead of the whole Dir. structure of SharePoint.
See my screen captures and all will get it. If a company wants to have a company wide SharePoint structure for data archives, file resources company wide, accessible on any device with SharePoint, why can't I have just the Marketing Folder that's in the 'Shared Doc' of SharePoint linked in Teams instead of the whole SharePoint Folder structure. Again, shortcuts would be a perfect resolution to direct people in a team to specific Folders in/on the SharePoint. Not some other Dir./Folder structure that Teams makes that's outside the SharePoint.
OR, is MS trying to get rid of SharePoint 'Shared Docs', because if that's the case then allow access in SharePoint to get to the Teams Library, because I see no way to get to those inside that Library, unless I use the web SharePoint, which is slow and clunky... sure like a mapped drive that's right in the OS... fast, easy and because I built it I know it... along with my other IT/Web teammate. - Dean_GrossJul 09, 2019Silver ContributorFYI, preset shortcuts are becoming much less valuable because the Office clients do a great job of keeping track of where we have been working and making good suggestions about locations to save files. We can also Pin specific sites/files so that they are always available which is pretty nice.

jeffburkholder You have probably considered this but mapping drives is the old way of working. It keeps the File Explorer as the starting point and excludes any other productivity that is to be gained from Teams. Its a mind shift away from everything being architected around files.
We also see the lack of a mapped drive as a distinct bonus, as this is one of those things that was forcing us to maintain VPN's and Citrix, as people couldn't access files remotely. Mapped drives also mask out a lot of the power of SharePoint. Seems a shame.
Syncing is the solution to having "local" file structure to work with when speed is required.
I'm having to re-educate my usership on how to get the most of the suite. It is not by clinging to previous ways of working. We're telling people that Teams is your aggregation of all the tools and a great way to start performing work. Work fro anywhere on any device etc too.
A lot of tasks can be done from within its walls (view/edit docs, tasks, convos) and then you can always hop out to the full version of the app.
I have my hold outs too, however between Teams and Slack, this is the way that things are moving to. My biggest request would be a better way to move work that started in Outlook to Teams and (if necessary) back again. A much harder problem to solve. - jeffburkholderJul 06, 2019Brass Contributor
adam deltinger thanks Adam, I'll research it.
Still would love to be able to directly access Teams Folders from within the Root of SharePoint. And as I said be able to make shortcuts to folders that are specific to that Group of the SharePoint 'Shared Docs. folder. Just seems counter intuitive if Users map the whole Domains SharePoint. Just leads to duplication of files.
Or I guess have to just live in Teams as a semi-clunky, slow management method. Then direct Users in SharePoint Sites to their Team Groups that way. Hmmm, such a simple request of why can't I see as Admin the Teams Libraries and why can't SharePoint Folders be easily individually linked into the Teams structure.
MS you guys brainwashed us on Dir./Folder structure since Windows 1 and when we had the introduction of SharePoint we got a nice methodology and structure. Now there's this and it don't integrate easily in your original OS design.
