Set your own Nickname on Teams

Copper Contributor

When I tag someone using @,  Teams copy the person name in the post, right?

But I know many people that don't like their name

or their name is too long or super difficult to rear/pronounce

or they like nicknames, like me :)

Then my idea

why not let people set their nickname on Teams?
then, when someone tags myself, for instance, it will not appear "Hey Francisco Mello" but "Hey Chico" :)

I TRULY BELIEVE THAT WILL BOOST PEOPLE COMMUNICATION AND INTERACTION!

No, that is not possible. It is possible to remove the first or last name in when tagging a person. There is a uservoice suggesting that you should be able to use nicknames.

You could use tags in a teams as a workaround, but that is only per team.

Hi @fmello007

There are several uservoices for this including

https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/32670574-nicknames

So would vote up to push them up the agenda, however you could do this with tagging assuming you let people know your nickname

Hope that answers your question. I think I a lot would like to see this functionality so I voted on it too

Best, Chris

In my organization their are many people having same name but they are in different teams (inside company) ..so it is difficult to distinguish them or memorize their emails...Cant we just rename their names with something like Rahul Bhargava (Development)...so it would become easy to mention right person.
