Scheduling Meetings in Private Channels

Iron Contributor

Hi,

Can anyone confirm this this works, or indeed doesn't? I can't seem to schedule meetings into Private Channels, but can't find if this should actually work.

Thanks,

@ChrisHoardMVP  It's been two years since this thread started. Any thoughts on when private channels will be able to schedule a meeting? I noticed in this article (dated 3/23/2022) that it's still unavailable.

Thanks,

Rob Rybczynski

How is this still not possible?

Is it possible to get mail adress from private channel and add this address in outlook add attendees and sent the inventation? @ChrisHoardMVP

@Froggie1977 I tried that and I could not get it to work that way.

@sp-jmglade Why roll out private Teams if features are so limited? I've deleted and reset up Teams and meetings because my entire Team was getting unnecessary notification only to find that I CANNOT use private channels to set up future meetings!! What a waste of time. There should be a warning attached to the private teams option: LISTING FEATURES NOT AVAILABLE WITH PRIVATE CHANNELS

Hi all,

Still currently under review (was moved over from Uservoice)

Support channel meetings in Private Channels · Community (microsoft.com)

In terms of a workaround, you can simply go into the private channel, start a meet now, copy the link to the meeting and then put that link into a recurring cal entry in Outlook :D.

Best, Chris

Any update on this ... it's now August 2022, this thread started in March 2020 ...

@sp-jmglade

Yes please! This is such a basic feature. I'm being sent in circles because I want to schedule a meeting in our Teams calendar but only include specific people. Other threads suggest:

  1. Making people who aren't invited wait in the lobby (not a good option, just creates frustration for them)
  2. Excluding the Teams channel from the meeting and only entering the required attendees you want (not actually possible, see screenshot below)
  3. Scheduling the meeting in a Teams channel instead of general (Ok but this is only possible if the channel isn't private apparently? And we're talking about a private channel. We do not want to create a duplicate "public" channel just to schedule meetings!!)

Hi @ChrisHoardMVP,
How is it that it is now October 2022 and we are still unable to schedule meetings on a Team's private channel ?

Considering the number of replies, one would think that you'd make this a priority.

Kind regards,
David
I have the same problem.
Trying to organize teams, this would really help!
+1 and we are still waiting for this more than 2 years down the line

+ 1000 for this request

@sp-jmglade There is a great article about this.
This is a great solution:
How to schedule a meeting in a private channel of Microsoft Teams? - Microsoft 365 Education (sergey...

Basically:

Get the e-mail from the private channel

Plan a recurrence meeting in the main channel

As participants: paste the private channel e-mail (DO NOT ENTER OTHERS!)
Remove the channel from the invite (Team-Name --> Main channel name)

Save

I sort of like that as a workaround - better than anything else so far!
I see how that works - it achieves the meeting but I can't then edit the post to make it look like a tidy meeting. I'll still use this for now on occasion though - thank you! 🙂

@ChrisHoardMVP Has this matter been resolved? I would love to be able to schedule meetings in private channels or be able to invite the channel members to a meeting. It seems the ability to add a private channel to a new meeting doesn't work either.

I see a new option in the Preview Teams client mentionning we can "schedule a meeting".
Currently that is grey and we can see a "Your admin hasn't enabled this feature".
Because I am the Admin for Teams, my users ask me to unlock this option...

I have check the Microsoft Roadmap and I don't see anyhting regarding meeting in private channel.
Do you know more?

@XavierTro i have come across the same thing.  The client says "our admin hasn't enabled this feature"  however in the admin center in the Meeting Policy this is turned on and it still doesn't work....

So all i can suspect is this is something that is coming... but why you can enable the option in the admin center and it still not work is beyond me.

The fact that this option appears with the new client version is probably a sign that is coming soon.
Quite often, the settings appears before the official release... I guess that is the case here again.
