Scheduling Meetings in Private Channels
- Mar 10, 2020Hi sp-jmglade
Currently, you can't schedule meetings in private channels.
As stated in the article
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/private-channels
We're continually adding capabilities to private channels so check back for the most up-to-date information regarding apps, channel meetings, and scaling private channels for large teams
You can however do meet now's in private channels
Hope that answers your question!
Best, Chris
the uservoice is here sp-jmglade
I really can't understand why this isn't a thing. It's a very basic feature that should be available.
Please MS can you get this rolled out ASAP.
Cheers

Private Channels in Teams is indeed a cool feature, especially for effective collaboration of higher management and strategic groups working on sensitive information and data.
It is, however, sad to see a very basic yet important feature like meeting setup missing. It's been more than couple of years since first concern was raised, but I see the issue hasn't progressed much. I tried to cast my vote in uservoice, but seems the link no more exists.
I would greatly appreciated if this feature is ranked top of the backlog and its implementation expedited.
Will be hopefully watching this thread for the good news! 🙂
Thanks!
- Thomas_HZAug 10, 2023Copper ContributorCould not agree more. The feature is very important and has been requested for a long time, it would be great to see it live soon! Any new updates on whether it's coming up or not would also be appreciated.

Hi Thomas_HZ Ashwin4rmUBS and all others who commented.
Just getting back to Tech Community after a long period odd so thanks for bearing with me.
The request hasn't moved along any further on feedback portal. It is still here and is currently in a state of review: Microsoft have responded to it:
Support channel meetings in Private Channels · Community (microsoft.com)
In terms of a workaround
1.) As stated previously, you can simply go into the private channel, start a meet now, copy the link to the meeting and then put that link into a recurring cal entry in Outlook :D.
2.) You can also schedule channel meetings in Shared Channels, which also have the privacy of Private Channels but have the functionality you need. With the shared channel you have the ability to only share it with people as opposed to teams, or orgs outside of you own. I 100% get that a downside of this is that you may not want others to have the opportunity to have to share it with anything other than individuals.
If I am honest I don't think that the native solution of being able to pick private channels when scheduling a meet will be - given the amount of time passed already - anytime soon. However, I'll put it in front of engineering so that they have eyes on it again. Caveat is that they may still do nothing given current commitments.
Best, Chris

dizlet Also, Teams released Breakrooms in Preview. But they only added it for private meetings. This makes it harder to use with a class that are part of a channel.

Hello dizlet,
The link you shared (https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/40337650-scheduled-meetings-for-private-channels) doesn't work anymore. It gives an error as " This UserVoice instance is no longer available. "
Can you please update the link?
