Is there any way to add a Slack like chat channel to a teams > channel > tab

The only way we seem to be able to communicate in the "team" is currently using the "Post" tab. I can see this has its benefits for some conversations which need to be contained and not interrupted but for general chatter between the team it feels like a massive step back (i mean if its important enough to create a post, then its likely we will use an email instead to make it easier for people who are OOO for a few days).

Is there a way we can setup a "Chat" with the "To" to be the members of the "Team" and add that to each "Channel" Ideally any one new to the team would be able to view all previous messages within that chat. Basically i am trying to recreate the Slack feel as close as possible.,

No you cannot. They should add an option to have a channel threaded or not but honestly I’ve always picked threads over chat. Chat exotically chat that actually has traffic is a jumbled mess. With posts you get replies and keep context of conversations together and it is so much easier to catch up when context is maintained.

Not to mention alerts are so much better. What I do in out “chatter” private channel In our team is set my alerts to only alert on new posts. This lets me easily choose to follow a topic or not by clicking the ... and turn on notifications for the thread and or reply which by default alerts for others replying to my posts or ones I reply too. This way I don’t get bombarded by a conversation I’m not interested. You can also turn off notifications for a post thread in the same manner for when you want to check out on one. You get used to it. Don’t overthink post as something more than clicking on the chat bar. It has its benefits.

Also look at pinning your chatter channel. It puts it front and center in teams and in your chat tab in mobile making it more like a readily available chat.


Anyway sorry not the answer you wanted but we came from Slack and don’t it once we utilized Teams this way 😜

indeed I do like a CHAT in a TEAM that appears in the lists of chats!!
(not all channels have to be visible in CHAT.

@dontatme999999 totally agreed. The lack of chatter capability with Teams is freaking me out. It is so fluid in slack that allows for broader instant collaboration.

@ChrisWebbTech Slack has threads. But the difference is that they don't waste a ton of screen space by formatting everything like facebook posts
