How use Scoped Directory Search

Copper Contributor

Hi,

Our institution will now use MIcrosoft Teams as a official solution due the covid19.

One problem is the search that is "open" for all at Active Directory. For example, any student can find and talk with any Teacher/Doctors.

How can I reduce reach, put some filters and make students don't find Teachers/Doctors?

Using groups or OU maybe ?

We aren't using Exchange and we have more than 5k accounts.

Solution

Hi,

The only solution for this is Scoped Directory Search and that requires Exchange Online.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-scoped-directory-search

Without Exchange Online I guess the only solution is separate Office 365 tenants.

No the only solution...there is another one that could fit here very well: Information barriers https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/information-barriers-in-teams
But one of the prerequisites for Information Barriers is Scoped Directory Search, that requires Exchange Online.
