how to force Teams to default to Contacts instead of Chat

We used to be able to choose this I think, but now there is no option. I have my contacts grouped by office location, but every time I open Teams it's default sorted back to Chat, rather than Contacts. If it's a registry hack or what ever, I just need to find a way to fix the broken "feature".
