Feb 27, 2023Now in public preview: Automatic lowering of a user's Raised Hand after speaking
Description
To reduce the number of stale raised hands in meetings, we now suggest users to lower their raised hand after we detect they spoke in the meeting. If users don't take any action on the suggestion notification, we'll automatically lower their hand. This should ensure smoother meeting facilitation for organizers and presenters.
Flighting status
Available to everyone in Public Preview channel.
How to enable
Users who raise their hand in a Teams meeting and speak in the meeting will see a notification informing them that their hand will automatically be lowered soon. They will be able to choose to keep their hand raised. If the user doesn't take action on the notification, their hand will automatically lower. This should ensure smoother meeting facilitation for organizers and presenters.
Note 1: If you need information about enabling the public preview itself, see “Enable the public preview for Teams” below.
Note 2: To be able to use this feature, user needs to be in Public Preview. Other meeting participants are not required to be in Public Preview.

- 9phay9Brass ContributorAny update on being able to disable this feature?
We use hand raising on our daily standups then talk in order of who raised their hand. As soon as you say hello, or answer a question, if you miss the notification your hand is lowered and you're placed at the bottom when you re-raise your hand. This has led to very silent meetings as people don't want to get bumped. - GeoffO0Copper ContributorIt's a cool feature, but in many of my meetings we use hands for ordering. I'd also like to be able to disable this.
- MassimilianoRiizzatoCopper ContributorThis feature is TOTALLY ANNOYING, there should be a way to disable it
- davidatenvoyCopper ContributorThis is the worst feature ever but not a surprise from microsoft.
Please allow us to turn it off. - DavidD85Copper Contributor
Please provide a setting to allow us to disable this feature. The way my team works, this feature is a huge hinderance. We use Raised hands to indicate we need to discuss something afterwards with a sub-group, however that means we have to catch this dialog when we speak, which we don't always. We would like to disable this feature so we don't have to jump on these dialogs constantly.

Please add option to turn this feature off. Pretty much every meeting I attend someone complains that their hand has been lowered as they missed the prompt to keep it up after speaking.

Jan_Steberl please let this feature be configurable! The problem you tried to solve is very specific and does not apply to the work environment I am in. This feature is however very disturbing, I lose my priority in the queue of speakers when I need to answer an ad-hoc question. I know that there is a popup asking me to keep it but I am busy concentrating on talking and making my point and do not have capacity or focus to also keep an eye on Teams behaviour at the same time.

Jan_Steberl where did the Save Message or Post go? I can't seem to find it to save a message or post, nor can I find where they are usually kept under my profile picture. Thank you in advance.
- GregFlemingCopper ContributorI think it would be best if there were a setting to disable this.
It seems like it would be useful in larger meetings with a main presenter and many people asking questions.
However, in our small team Agile Scrum meetings, we raise our hands as soon as we know we'll want to bring something up in sidebar at the end of the meeting. I often miss the popup notification which allows me to keep my hand raised because I'm focused on shared content in another window. - stefansakalaCopper Contributor
With all due respect to your program manager skills, releasing such annoying feature without ability to turn it off was clearly a bad decision - as a user, your stakeholder, I insist on that. I work at a team of 7 engineers, hate this feature and we're unable to turn it off while our employer insists on using Teams. Please, introduce ability to turn it off in the next update. - MatthiasRodlerIron Contributorwhy do you want to turn it off?
- 9phay9Brass ContributorWe raise hands to then take turns talking during standups. If I reply to someone's question on their turn and don't notice the popup my hand is lowered and I have to rejoin at the back of the queue.
