Android Apps Not Installing on some fully enrolled Company Devices - 0xC7D24FBA

Copper Contributor

A weird issue has cropped up and we can't seem to find much info on it.

There are a couple devices out of our 30 ish devices that aren't installing an App off the Managed Google Play Store. These devices are fully managed company devices

90% of the devices install the app fine but the rest return an error:

The application failed to install, possibly because of insufficient storage or an unreliable network connection. The installation will be retried automatically. (0xC7D24FBA).

This is wrong because the devices have both WiFi and 4G available and are fully stable as well as these devices being just a couple months old and having 256gb of storage with 20gb used (Motorola G54s)

The app is required to go to all users so it would install when the device is through the OOBE screens. It would also be available on the Play Store Collection page but affected devices won't show it

Also during the setup process where it shows required apps to proceed and additional apps to install once on the home screen, the app appears there as if it would get it.

We have tried removing, re-readding the app as well as resetting the affected devices but no luck, they just won't take the app! Additionally, when resetting we have tried re-enrolling using the QR code and letting Android Zero Touch enroll the device.

I have seen some users online have this issue with other apps so it can't be an issue with the specific app but there is no resolution.

If anyone has any solutions before we hand this off to Microsoft Support, that would be much appreciated.

Can you please let us know what app this is about? Is this the only app not installing on the affected devices and other apps are installing without issue? Are all devices the same, same type, same Android version etc?

Really helpful in these type of scenarios is the device logs captured during issue (so during the enrollment). This is a little difficult because the device needs to be in the homescreen and you need to enable developer mode in the settings. We could simulate or stage the issue, we could apply assignment at a later point after registration and setup log collection using adb. Are you familiar with this and how to gather the logs?

App is called Highways Toolbox, it is one used by our Company in the Road Construction Industry - nothing special about it, but yeah other apps are installing without an issue and what makes it more bizarre is all deployed devices are Moto G54s and the majority install the app fine

I have tried using the Intune app to collect logs but it is something I am still learning.

You can install adb on a computer and you need to attach the android device by cable (developer options need to be enabled on the devices). This is one of the best guides:

https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/

You need to set it up to collect these logs though. You could enroll one of the devices without the assignment of Highways Toolbox. When enrolled set everything up to collect the logs and assign the app. You need to enable developer options in the Device Restriction Configuration > General > Developer Settings > Allow. Preferably scope this to the single test device because it is a security risk.
By the way the app is not maintained, last update is march 2018, this is a matter of time before issues start to crop up I think it would be wise to contact the Developer or start looking for an alternative
Same issue here since mid February, only a few apps get installed. Same error that you get. Even Intune Company Portal is not installing anymore,
Hi that is pretty strange we did not receive any issues from our customers but it might be some general issue related to Intune. In this case it is strange it is happening only for one app though, so it doesn't look like a more general issue. But maybe it is, wise to create a ticket with Microsoft to be sure and if you like we can keep troubleshooten here also..
Hi, yes we have a ticket open with Microsoft. It's not just one app, about 90% of our required apps are not installing automatically but all install fine if the user clicks the intall button just like in available apps. Have done some testing like adding a new apps that we have not used before and some of them do install automatically and some wont.
please keep us in the loop if MS give you a resolution!
Hee,

I got the same issue, some apps getting installed automatic. And a lot other apps wont, they keep on pending.. Even with the intune sync they wont get installed. I do see them at the playstore and can install them there. But it should go automatic. Really hope MS gets asap a solution, need to enroll 300+ devices soon...

@r3vqu

Just ran into this issue... 80+ devices (Feb20th).
Looks like we had a few apps that where required to install but were removed from the Play Store.
After removing the non-existing apps from Intune (starts with com.<appname>, and has default android icon) the remaining apps started to install.
We still have some don't even show in the managed store, but that may be a result of what was mentioned above about apps not being maintained, and might be on Play Store next chopping block?

UPDATE
Looks like developers need to maintain their apps.
Took too long to find these.. search-fu is weak lately

Thank you, that worked. I removed all assignments of "Android Enterprise system app"-type apps, wiped my test phone and everything installed afterwards. Not sure which of them were causing it but I confirmed it was from them because after adding the assigments back the issues came back.

Edit. I think few apps worked even during the problem because the apps get processed in order and when it got to the broken ones it just stopped there.

Thank you for the tip, we have removed all possible apps to de clutter but we don't have any further problematic apps and the apps are still not installing. The issue we have is the small quantity of devices that don't install apps are the same model/version as the ones that install ok, so I woulld've thought if it was a play store developer issue, it would be across all devices?

Some progress since,

I have copied a link to the app from Play Store online on my computer and opened it on a device that was failing and we are getting the error that the app is made for an older version of Android.

Still a bit confusing as to why some devices got it as they all use Android 13 but either way, the app is outdated and Im guessing Intune throws error code 0xC7D24FBA because it was a failure within the Play Store app itself and intune thinks it lost internet or something because its not installing

If anyone gets the error code above, perhaps try copying the link to the app from Play Store in your computers web browser and opening it on the device to see if its not compatible and it takes you directly to the app.

Reaching out to the developers now to see if they can resolve or if we just have to use something else going forward but looks like there is no issue with the intune config.
