Microsoft Forms External Sharing Disabled
Hello,
After enabling file attachment in the microsoft forms, the external sharing is disabled. Is that possible to share the form with outside organization people.
Thanks,
Sakthi
Sakthisp If you have File Upload field in your form, it must be for users in your org only.
The form can be anonymous, for use externally, but not with the file upload field.

Rah, sad to see this, I was all happy to build my form for external, when I suddenly discovered we cannot add files when for external use....
Hope Microsoft will open it soon!

Have you gotten any word back from Microsoft about allow external users to upload files on a form? MS has gone silent on this, not sure if I need to look at another vendor.
Thanks!

Completely agree that the ability to upload externally is needed. Most people within an organisation have ways of sharing files to colleagues etc. What I want is a way of having people transfer files to us from outside the organisation. Forms is perfect for this.

Stuart_Morgan very disappointing I was so excited when I saw that we finally have this functionality and only to find that it doesn't work outside the organization. Microsoft really need to get a move on this. Since its already done internally what is stopping it when it is done externally?

Unfortunately, it's a typical modus operandi for Microsoft. They always begin with an announcement of BIG features, shortly followed by limited and/or dysfunctional product release. For many years I have wondered how they manage to stay in business?

- KdubbyaCopper ContributorAnyone know if there are plans to change this? Limiting to internal users limits the utility substantially.

It would be extremely useful if Microsoft Forms could allow file upload when the form is shared externally or at least if it would let you specify the external individuals. Google Forms have this function.

KevinCrossman Thanks for the reply.
Is there any other way to achieve my goal(Forms should be share anonymous people with file upload) .
- IvonSimCopper ContributorDuring pendemic we need visitor to upload their proof of covid test, sadly this doesn't work for external. My workaround is when the form is generate, use the automate system to give them a link. Or give a link in the thank you page (but I didn't try this yet).

KevinCrossman Isn't it an optional? How it is disabled, so why?
Ozansta The way the product works is that you have file uploads then the users have to sign in which means it's internal only.

Are there already any improvements of this? I need a form where externals can upload files. Otherwise the form is useless and I have to go back and send excel sheets and docs back and forth via email.
Thanks for any infos

No response from the microsoft team, Even escalated on user voice. I don`t why the rolled out without this feature🤔.

This is indeed a huge problem and the reason why Microsoft Forms is useless. I would gladly pay an extra fee if they had the feature, google forms has it, so no clue why Microsoft doesn't.

s_glech no, there's no news yet on when external form users will be able to upload files.

Sakthisp Just sharing my experience and a potential work around which works in my scenario. I set up a form to capture new client data for KYC checks, with that comes the requirement to upload proof of ID documents. So in my MS Form I add a "Text" section, in the question box I put some detail about what type of document is required etc. I then created a Sharepoint folder, lets call it "Client upload" folder. I then simply create and copy the link, set to share with anyone, then paste the link into the relevant forms "Text" box. The Form recipient receives the form and the link appears in the question field, there is obviously a click through in order to upload the document instead of attaching within the form itself, the document then ends up in my sharepoint folder.
The problem with this is that the recipient could still potentially click through the question without uploading a document, but it will work in some scenarios, like in mine where if the recipient doesn't upload a document I can easily work out who it is and ask them to do it, as I am only sending the form to one or two people at a time.
Hope this helps

Thanks for sharing your creative workaround, jasoncoppen. That might actually work for my purpose too. Better than nothing.
Wish we just had some acknowledgement of if this will be fixed and when. If you knew it was pending, I would wait. If I knew it a year away, I might pursue something alternative.

Spent ages working on a form and then to find the upload function is disabled 😞
Sort this out Microsoft as the form creation is brilliant for a novice like me.

The thing here is that you can share the forms with "External" as long as you don't have any "question that requires uploading Files, if you do have any then it will be disabled by default (since is a security issue).
Forms with uploading files are only ON (inside the tenant, so for users within the tenant that are members of your AAD).
