Worksheet tabs have disappeared in MS365 version of Excel
Since yesterday whenever I open an Excel file only the last sheet I worked on is displayed and there are no tabs at the bottom of the screen to switch work sheets. Even if I select "new document" there are no tabs shown so this appears to be a fundamental change to the program. As most of my workbooks have between 6 and 20 worksheets the only way I can now access them is through the desktop version of Excel, which feels like a retrograde step. Has anyone else had this problem?
SuzyQ820 Can't replicate that behavior in Excel for the Web. How does the bottom left-hand corner of the Excel tab (when viewed in your browser)? Mine looks like this:
I've read some post suggesting that some browsers cause this problem, but I can't verify it. Which one do you use?
In any way, the suggestions given by Saima14 's AI robot are not going to help you as they do not apply to Excel for the Web.

This happened again 6 months on and I tried everything suggested however the solution turned out to be ridiculously simple. The square in the top right corner of the screen gives me 8 choices of view. Changing this brings back my worksheet tabs. Hope this solution helps others with the same problem, just wish I'd discovered it a couple of hours ago!

I was using MS Edge but have changed to Google Chrome and that seems to have cured the problem. Thank you so much, I would never have thought of that. After months of getting used to the Web version of MS365 I really didn't want to have to do back to the Desktop version. Many thanks to everyone who has tried to help. Suzy

In my case I see no changes of such kind in Excel for web, all available sheets are visible in the tab. I'd try to open Excel file with browser in incognito (InPrivate) mode; or clean all caches, signout from Office and sign-in again.
As workaround in Excel for web you may find Navigation icon which opens Navigation pane, here all sheets shall be listed.

SergeiBaklan Hi Sergei, I don't have that 'Navigation' button in the View ribbon in the web version. How come?

Hi Riny,
Right now I checked both for my business and consumer subscriptions, Navigation is in both.
As I remember it was introduced relatively long ago, first for Web, next for the Desktop. Later option to open from status bar was added.
- Saima14Copper ContributorI haven't experienced this issue personally, but it sounds frustrating. To troubleshoot, try the following steps:
Reset Excel Preferences:
Close all Excel files.
Open Excel and go to "File" > "Options" > "Advanced."
Scroll down to the "Display" section and check the "Show all windows in the Taskbar" option.
Click "OK" and restart Excel.
Check Workbook View Options:
Open a workbook, go to the "View" tab.
In the "Workbook Views" group, make sure "Normal" is selected.
Check Zoom Level:
Sometimes, if the zoom level is too high, it might affect the display of tabs. Ensure your zoom level is set to a normal view.
Update Office:
Make sure your Microsoft 365 subscription is up to date. Check for and install any available updates.
Repair Microsoft 365 Installation:
Open "Control Panel" > "Programs" > "Programs and Features."
Find Microsoft 365 in the list, right-click, and select "Change."
Choose "Quick Repair" and follow the prompts.
Check for Add-ins:
Add-ins can sometimes cause display issues. Disable them and see if the problem persists.
Create a New Excel Profile:
Sometimes, user profiles can become corrupted. Create a new profile and see if the issue persists.
If none of these solutions work, it's possible that there might be a specific issue with your installation or the file itself. Contacting Microsoft Support or checking community forums might provide more tailored assistance. Good luck! :hammer_and_wrench:️:bar_chart:- SuzyQ820Copper Contributor
Thanks for your reply. Yes it is very frustrating but another reply which suggested it could be the browser seems to have cracked it and I've now got my worksheet tabs back, thank goodness. Such a relief! Thanks again for your reply anyway. Suzy

Suzy, Microsoft recently have problems with online services due to issues with WebKit. Workaround is to logout from the account, clean cache and sign-in again. Perhaps that was your case as well.
In general if there are issues with the app opened in browser, try first to repeat in InPrivate (Incognito) session. If works here, clean caches and cookies and try again.

How that could help with Excel for web?
- Saima14Copper Contributor
If you're not experiencing the issue in Excel for the web and all sheets are visible in the tab, it might be specific to the desktop version. Another thing to check is if there's a scroll bar at the bottom of the sheet tabs—if there are too many sheets to fit, they might be hiding there.
Your workaround using the Navigation pane in Excel for the web is clever—it's great to have alternatives while troubleshooting. Hope your Excel tabs mystery gets solved soon! :hammer_and_wrench:️:bar_chart: If the issue persists, reaching out to Microsoft Support might provide more targeted assistance.
