The file format and extension of “filename.xls” don’t match

Copper Contributor

Hi

Error message after opening Excel file:

‘The file format and extension of “filename.xls” don’t match. The file could be corrupted or unsafe. Unless you trust its sources, don’t open it. Do you want to open it anyway?’

I already tried:
1. Open and repair
2. Add-in deletion (COM)
3. Trust center setting

Thanks in advance.

Hello Isabella,

Did you try to open your Excel file in Safe mode?

Did you try to change the file extension from .xls to .xlsx?

Read my reply of this forum: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/aecedc3e-d1d6-44e4-868c-b3bc15927ab6/how-to...

I visited link and downloaded the demo version this software: https://www.stellarinfo.com/repair-excel-file.php

Can you share more about this software?

Dear Isabella,

You can read all information on the page. As demo is available then, make a copy of your file and repair it. As I know, it shows preview of repairable data.

These are the features of the software:

Let me know.

I hope you will fix it.
