Loss of links and associated buttons

Hi, I have an excel spreadsheet with quite a few tabs and a front sheet with buttons (made by inserting a shape) and then attaching a link to each of the tabs via the buttons. This has been working fine but suddenly all of my buttons and the associated links have disappeared.

I tried to start again by inserting another worksheet and then inserting some shapes again to make the buttons before assigning the links but the insert option is all greyed out. All other workbooks where I have used the same process are all working fine.

Any help would be appreciated
