Links to an external excel file

Hello,

I have an excel file with VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP cells referencing to another excel file (MASTER data file). If I change the MASTER file name, the other file won't update the referenced file name, Is this normal behavior of excel or Am I doing anything wrong ?

    If you change the filename of the master workbook in Windows Explorer, Excel doesn't "know" that.

    You can change the source of the links in File > Info > Edit Links to Files.

    Alternatively:

    • Open both the master workbook and the workbook with the links.
    • Activate the master workbook and press F12 to activate the Save As dialog.
    • Save the master workbook under a new name and then close it.
    • Save the workbook with the links.
