Increase font size of error messages

Hi there,

We have a user who has trouble with small text. They are on Windows 11. They have increased their scale of both display and text size, inside and out of Excel specifically, but none seem to affect the text size of error messages they receive in Excel. What setting could be changed to correct this?

In Windows 11, you can adjust the size of text in error messages and other system dialogs by changing the scaling settings for text and other items. However, Excel's error message boxes are typically not affected by Windows scaling settings directly.

To increase the font size of error messages specifically within Excel, you can try changing the default font settings within Excel itself. Here's how you can do it:

    1. Open Excel.
    2. Go to the "File" tab in the ribbon.
    3. Click on "Options" at the bottom of the left-hand menu.
    4. In the Excel Options dialog box, go to the "General" tab (it should be selected by default).
    5. Look for the "When correcting spelling and grammar in Word" section.
    6. Click on the "Font" button next to the "Font size" dropdown menu.
    7. In the Font dialog box, choose the desired font size.
    8. Click "OK" to apply the changes.
    9. Click "OK" again to close the Excel Options dialog box.

Keep in mind that changing the default font size in Excel will affect not only error messages but also other text within Excel, such as cell contents, menu labels, and dialog boxes.

If the above steps do not have the desired effect, it's possible that Excel's error message boxes have a fixed font size that cannot be changed through standard settings. In such cases, you may need to explore alternative solutions, such as using accessibility features or third-party tools that can magnify specific parts of the screen. I do not see a "When correcting spelling and grammar in Word" section in the version I am using which is: Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2403 Build 16.0.17425.20124) 64-bit
