drop down list

i have an excel and i want to create a drop down menu. if to do it by adding the data of the drop down in different cells and set as source it works. if go to data -->data validation --> list -->check the two options and add on source the data manually separated by comma. the outcome is that get a drop down with one option which the data separated by commas and not the one below the other.
