Divide one range of cells by another
I have a spreadsheet with a lot of numerical entries, split into months. I need to calculate averages, over a range of time, using the monthly totals. This means that I need a formula which will allow me to select one range of cells, and then divide that by another range of cells. I want the results t show in a different spreadsheet and I know how to do that but I don't know how to phrase the formula.
I am not massively familiar with Excel and using formulae, so I would appreciate answers which do not use too much jargon! Thanks.

Perhaps AVERAGIFS() function will help

Sorry about the long delay in getting back to you. I didn't quite understand you answer but it led me to finding the average function in the drop-down on the toolbar, which worked perfectly. Thanks!
