Shared Calendar on Outlook Android Oreo (S9+) won't sync

I just got this new phone Samsung S9+, set up Outlook with my Office 365 Business account, accepted the Shared Calendar (that was just shared this morning), but accidentally removed the shared calendar on the phone. This is the only account set up in my Outlook

I spoke with support. Was advised to go to OWA (desktop) > open calendar > enter the shared calendar directory to have it back in my calendars tab. Went on the phone's Outlook > Calendar tab > three horizontal lines > Settings at the bottom > Reset Account to re-synchronize but it didn't work.

Support was able to test it on here end with iPhone and Android with lower version and it worked that way.

Thus, on my phone, we already tried restarting phone, deleting the account, delete cache and cookies, re-installing the Outlook app. While in OWA, we removed any devices set up in Settings > Mobile Devices. But it was all the same thing.

Workaround: support had me refer to the email with the invitation and click the Accept button. In my OWA, I have a lot of open calendars which are now showing in the phone.

How come it didn't work on my phone the normal process? Is Outlook not compatible in S9+?

  • Hi,

Shared calendars definitely work on those devices!

It sounds like the information you received from Support is incorrect.

In order to have the shared calendar sync to your mobile device, you need to accept the sharing invitation using Outlook on the web, iOS, or Android. So in your case, from Outlook on Android, search for the sharing invitation you received & click Accept again.

After re-accepting, you should see the calendar appear in your list of calendars.

Hi, I just tried repro'ing this on Oreo and it worked for me. Here are the steps:

        1. From an account hosted in Office 365 (user A), login to Outlook on the web
        2. Share the calendar to another user (user B) who is hosted in Office 365
        3. User B opened Outlook for Android and clicks the Accept button shown in the app
        4. User B sees User A's calendar in Outlook for Android

Note: both accounts must be hosted in Office 365, and you must be using the above listed apps (using 3rd party apps will not work)

If it was incorrect then it should have not work on her iphone and android phone.
I let tbe support retry it several times because it didnt work on my phobe. You mway want to try it. Here are the steps.

      1. Remove a shared calendar on the phone.
      2. Log in to desktop owa, the shared calendar is also gone.
      3. In order to have it back in desktop owa, add the shared calendar again. Open calendar. Once it is back go back go your phone.
      4. In the outlook app go to calendar tab, click the main settings at tbe lower left corner click your account and reset account.

I will also try this with the rest of my users who are using a lower version od Android.
