Event details
Have questions about deploying and managing Microsoft Store, line-of-business (LOB), and Win32 apps across your Windows ecosystem? Ask Microsoft Anything! With support for the Microsoft Store for Business and Microsoft Store for Education currently being removed from Microsoft Intune, there’s never been a better time to get the answers and information you need to create a great app experience for your end users.
Ask about best practices for importing and publishing apps using Intune. Get tips on how to allow people to self-install apps from the Company Portal. Find out what to do, where, and when if you’re currently managing endpoints on premises. Figure out if and when Windows Package Manager should play a role in your process. This event is all about answering your questions. Let’s talk apps!
Post your questions in the Comments below. We'll have experts responding in the live stream and others in chat. |

- Anthony_HansenOccasional ReaderIn the legal industry, we need to have full control over what apps are allowed in the environment. Currently we have the public store blocked and manage all of our apps from intune via Company Portal. What will happen if we continue to block the store and only use Company Portal?

You can block the Store app and continue to deliver Store apps using Intune with the new solution.
- prikuCopper ContributorWhat's the security best practise for winget if I want to make my environment for end users bit more strict? Should I remove the community repo from sources list? What will happen if I remove both community repo (winget) and msstore? Will it block using winget totally if I empty the source list? What's the best way to block end users from adding any 3rd party repos for winget and installing anything with winget?

Do we still need to manually upload logos for apps in the Microsoft Store app (new)? If so, this is a major time drain for publishing a simple application in a store. Without doing this, the published applications obviously look quite off-putting, or even broken to end users in the company portal.

Yes, icon support is on the roadmap, we are working on it. We were not able to get it done across Store, WinGet and Intune teams in the first release. I agree it's not a good experience.
- While creating a Windows kiosk profile in Intune, Add Store app refers to MSfB apps. Any ETA when this will changed to "Microsoft Store app (new)" apps?

- Eric79xIron Contributorthanks for that information. i have a lot to research now
- mcanizzaro24Brass ContributorCan Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps block specific Store apps? For example, WhatsApp?
- sejesokCopper ContributorWill we be able to access the Apps view directly when opening Company Portal on Windows devices at some point? It takes more time and clicks to access this view when compared to the user experience with Software Center.
- Eric79xIron Contributorsorry if this has already been addressed, i missed the first few minutes: Can we please have a plan to where both Microsoft Store and winget can be accessed and updated by NT Authority\SYSTEM ? System account needs to be able to update Store and winget apps for system AND all existing local user profiles. this is a _desperate_ need for enterprise.

Thanks for everyone's interest in this topic.
To address this scenario two things need to happen. 1) Remove the apps from all the user profiles. 2) Leverage Intune to redeploy the apps with System Context. Then the apps will continue to be serviced. We are aware of the feedback to accomplish the same without Intune, stay tuned.
Thank,
-Kevin
- Eric79xIron ContributorThanks. I am satisfied with the "this works for now, but we're working on the rest" answer; very hopeful.

We have some apps in existing store. Do we have to migrate those apps to new store or will it not be updated automatically. Do we have to re-install existing apps. Please suggest.
Please focus on autopilot with new store.

Yes, just create new Store apps in Intune for the ones you want to replace. Store sync was shut off last month, so you can delete the MSfB version of the app or wait until mid September were Intune will do a clean up on the backend. As I suggested to another user. Use the app list Filter feature to filter on MSfB app type. You can see a list of the ones you want to replace. That list also shows whether the app has been assigned to any user group, which is handy.- Sunil_PalCopper ContributorThanks for update.

The apps that are meant for Hololens 2 are not available for installation on Hololens 2 no matter what from Store (New), but must be packaged and deployed using the source code from the old store or from the offline repository.
- Bryan Keller
Microsoft
That is correct. You may have seen some posts about the MSfB retirement being "postponed", this only refers to the offline download functionality, for which the dev team is currently working on a replacement. For Hololens or Surface Hub, you will need to download the apps as offline packages and deploy them via Intune or other install technologies.
- KAMAL575Copper ContributorAfter we received notification that Q1 was up, we disabled the business apps store and attempted to support our existing customers with the new store, unfortunately, we got caught up in the chasing-a-tail situation for hololens users. For obvious reasons, we cannot go back to re-enable it as it's disabled with a change control process. we really need it working in Store(New), which was a decision from us based on earlier notifications., do we have any timeline that the new store would be fully functional!! what it does is force us to go to the vendor to package all the apps meant for Hololens 2 and added some financial implications for us., Hopefully, the solution would work for us very soon.
