- danielled73Copper ContributorHow do we gain access to the private preview? I joined the waitlist back in November 2022 and I still haven't heard anything.

Microsoft
@Danielle - you can start using the Loop app in the public preview now! Get started here: loop.microsoft.com/
- ejulesCopper Contributorsame for me, joined like 6 months ago - wasn't it announced for summer 2022 already :D? Soon=this quarter? 🙂
- Shane ChismBrass ContributorAwesome to hear you're interested Danielle! We began letting folks into the private preview at Ignite last year, and we've been steadily increasing the number. We're also getting ready for our Public Preview, and while I don't have a date to announce today it's coming soon so keep your eyes peeled!
- Luisa_VCopper ContributorHi! I would like to know the date release of Microsoft Loop Page or App. Because I would like to work with my Team on these.

Hi Luisa - Check out Shane's answer here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-365-events/microsoft-loop-ama/ec-p/3718286#M152. We're excited to support your team with the app soon!
- Stefan1Brass ContributorI recently saw the use case to embed a Loop component in a Word Document - what's the purpose? Also Word / Word Online provides Co-Authoring where everyone sees changed almost directly. Why using a Loop component inside Word?
- Jon KaufthalBrass ContributorThanks Stefan/all. Agree that there are important difference between coauthoring apps like Word and communications apps like Teams and Outlook. Beyond coauthoring, one other important capability for Loop components in Word is that the component can simultaneously exist in other places like Loop app, Teams, and Outlook. So people can contribute to the component from wherever is most convenient or visible, while still keeping the latest up-to-date in Word. For example you might track status in a Loop component in Teams during a standup meeting, and the latest would appear in your Word doc.
- BenSteginkIron Contributor
Jon Kaufthal, a follow-up question along these lines. Given the benefit of being able to embed it in multiple places, is there going to be an easier way coming to be able to do that...for instance, insert a Loop component and search for your existing components, or recommend components from the space vs. having to go find the file in OneDrive, get the link, and just copy/paste into the other places you want it.
- Great question Stefan. Loop components provide a place in a Word doc to coordinate the creation of the document. You could add a task list to get team members contributions, list research links and more. We could do that without Loop components. Create a page at the beginning of the doc. Use a table for tasks. List research links etc. But a component let’s us share these things independent of the document. We could request contributions to a paragraph by sharing just a paragraph inside a component. It’s hard to describe in text. But once the feature is available in preview, I plan to share examples how our team will use it in creating deliverables for a ACM campaign.
- BenSteginkIron ContributorWe discussed this on our podcast a couple of weeks back as well. Really curious to hear use cases for this one. Outlook and Teams I can understand a little easier...this one confused me a bit.
- Stefan1Brass ContributorHi, Why is every Loop component saved on a users OneDrive? It should be changed to save it on a SharePoint site of a Teams teams so it does not get lost, when a user leaves the company.
- Shane ChismBrass ContributorThanks Stefan! It's a great point and definitely one we've talked to a lot of customers about. There's some benefit to having Loop components stored in a user's OneDrive in certain cases (for example, many admins will want to put data controls to ensure multiple employee owners of content stored in SharePoint, and that doesn't lend itself well to "me" stuff that you create for yourself). That said, in collaborative scenarios, it does make sense to follow a more SharePoint-style sharing and permissions model, which is why for the new Microsoft Loop pages we are following a model where all Loop pages created in a Loop workspace are created in a more SharePoint-style container. This will allow admins to put data retention policies in place that map a group or team model vs. a more classic user model (where things can be deleted after an employee leaves the company).
- BenSteginkIron ContributorYes! Was just chatting about this the other day...with all the embedded loop components in Word, Outlook, and Teams...having these components dependent on individuals OneDrive accounts staying licensed and active could cause all sorts of issues...
- I think it’s right to store Loops in OneDrive when the collaboration begins in a private chat or an email with a few recipients. But components will eventually be supported in SharePoint and that will make it easier to share with the team, and move OneDrive based components into a team site for sharing.
- AlexH980Iron ContributorWill loop offer the ability to LOCK a page or a component from edits, similar to how Excel does it today?
- Shane ChismBrass Contributor
Hey Alex, I gave an answer to a similar question here. Take a look and see if that helps!
- ben-dlvxBrass ContributorWill Loop Workspaces be integrated in Teams as a Personal App? I would not like to have another separate collaboration hub outside of teams. That would be quite odd in terms of product positioning and collaboration experience having to switch between different tools while for months the digital workplace revolves around Teams being the cornerstone. In the same fashion: would Loop components and loop pages totally replace OneNote in the long run?
- Shane ChismBrass Contributor
The concept of Loop workspaces will exist first in a new, standalone Loop app, and we've been deeply designing how Loop workspaces appear in Teams as well.
We absolutely agree that collaboration is the intersection of productivity and communications, and that to have effective collaboration you need elements of both writing and chatting. We do think there's a lot of value in having a standalone app that allows you to easily multitask and provide you a place to focus and organize while being "heads down" or off comms.
Regarding OneNote: Definitely not the goal to replace OneNote, and we still think OneNote is going to be your best solution for personal memory and organization. Beyond that, OneNote is an incredibly valuable and loved tool particularly in education, and there's a lot of both inking and classroom scenarios that OneNote does uniquely well.
- davidyannickCopper Contributorsimple question when will it be available ?
- Shane ChismBrass ContributorLoop components are available today in Microsoft Teams and Outlook! The Microsoft Loop app is currently being used in private preview and we're working hard to put on some finishing touches. Keep a close eye out, we'll have more to announce soon!
- dtbsmithCopper ContributorI completed the Private Preview form but didn't hear anything further (disappointing) I would have assumed a preview would be out as its been ages since this was originally announced...
- MMilanekCopper ContributorHow can I gain access to the private preview? I am still on the waitlist. Would I be able to start using Loop with my team? I am inclined to begin using Notion with my team, but I waited in hopes that Loop would be released more in line with the November 2022 timeframe. What features are expected to be available in the initial release? I really like how with Notion I can easily create multiple different databases and display them as a table or board, with really simple but powerful flexibility in the formatting (e.g. which data to use for grouping or sub-grouping).

Thanks for joining the waitlist Matthew. We're expanding the private preview program each month by inviting waitlist customers in, but due to the high volume of interest not all waitlist customers will be able to join our private preview. We are working hard on some finishing touches so that we can move to a more open public preview soon, so stay tuned on announcements, which will include more specifics on features and capabilities.
- jcostantinoCopper ContributorHello. Is there a join link to the session?
- Meenah_KhosrawIron ContributorHey James, This is a text-based only AMA session, so you're already joined! If you have a question, please feel free to post it and our experts will answer it. Thanks, Meenah Microsoft 365 Community Manager
- jcostantinoCopper ContributorThanks Meenah. I wasn't sure as I saw speakers were listed in the description. I look forward to the session.
- Forrest_HIron ContributorThis is it. Just watch the posts
- AlexH980Iron Contributorthis is the session. There's no video URL
- AlexH980Iron ContributorWhen can we expect to see external sharing for loops? Will it be available at launch with the web and desktop apps?
- Shane ChismBrass ContributorExternal sharing for Loop components and Loop pages is definitely something on the roadmap. For a bunch of complicated reasons, external sharing is one of the harder scenarios to build in because it requires even more security and compliance work than is needed for the large enterprises (you're letting some content into the wild but still want to do it in a secure way). That said, we are actively working on this, and while it may not be available at the same time as our public preview moment for the Loop app, we aim to have it supported in the near future.
