Unlike Excel, the result of a formula in Word does not automatically update when the inputs are changed.
Therefore, you need to select the result and press F9 to update the field (formula), or use Print Preview and the close the Preview, which will also cause the fields in the document to be updated.
The other alternative is to use either FormFields or Content Controls in a form.
